  • Publication number: 20110162199
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate generally to rotor installation systems and, more particularly, to permanent magnet rotor installation systems, including those having an in situ magnetizer or magnet insertion device. In one embodiment, the invention provides a rotor installation system comprising: at least one magnetizer for permanently magnetizing a ferromagnetic material; and an arbor for receiving a rotor having at least one portion including a ferromagnetic material, wherein the at least one magnetizer is positioned relative to the arbor to allow permanent magnetization of the ferromagnetic material.

  • Publication number: 20110140060
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for locating a maintenance device approximate an area of interest of a wind turbine. The system generally includes a carriage configured to support the maintenance device and a cable having first and second ends attached to the carriage. Additionally, the system includes first and second anchor points, with the first anchor point being disposed adjacent to a component of the wind turbine. The second anchor point is spaced apart from the first anchor point such that the area of interest is generally disposed between the first and second anchor points. The cable may be coupled along its length between the first and second anchor points such that, as the cable is displaced, the carriage is moved to a position at which the area of interest is accessible to the maintenance device.

  • Publication number: 20110076442
Abstract: A method and system for forming a product including a layer of fiber to a surface of a mold is provided. The system includes a mold and an apparatus. The mold is configured to rotate about an axis of rotation. An apparatus includes a base and a head coupled to the base. The base is configured to rotate about the axis of rotation. The head is configured to apply the fiber to the surface of the mold to form the product. The product includes at least one layer including at least one fiber applied using centrifugal force.

  • Patent number: 4612785
Abstract: A dial of a knitting machine has jacks (14) at least the operating part (18) of which is made of a cominutable, preferably plastics material, to ensure broken off parts are ground up so as not to damage the dial.

  • Patent number: 4404821
Abstract: A yarn feeder and changer unit for a knitting machine comprises a number of adjacent yarn feeders any one of which can be moved from a yarn trapping position to a yarn feeding position while the others retain severed ends of their respective yarns at the trapping positions. The movement of each feeder to its feeding position comprises an upward component of movement from below the needle level by pivotal movement about a horizontal axis, and forward movement over the needles by a sliding component of movement. The creation of two distinct components of movement for each feeder (pivotal and sliding) enables the feeder path to pass close to but out of the path of the needles, and enables accurate yarn placement to be achieved.

  • Patent number: 4253316
Abstract: A shogging mechanism for use for example in knitting cable pattern on circular knitting machines incorporates a cam on a mounting fixed with respect to one needle bed of the circular knitting machine. Movement of the cam on its mounting causes another needle bed of the circular knitting machine to be relatively displaced to an extent determined by the cam profile. The shogging mechanism cam is preferably rotatable by means of a further cam having a fixed relationship to the cam system of the knitting machine.
