  • Patent number: 11212221
Abstract: First and second egress nodes are each multi-homed to a customer edge (CE) that participates in virtual routing and forwarding (VRF). First forwarding information is configured on the first egress node. The first information includes VRF labels and defines forwarding of traffic based on the VRF labels and a status of a primary path to the CE. The VRF labels include a per-VRF label for the VRF and a per-CE label for the CE. Second forwarding information is configured on the second egress node. The second forwarding information includes the per-VRF label and the per-CE label, and defines traffic forwarding based on the VRF labels. Upon receiving traffic for the CE that carries the per-VRF label, the first egress node determines the status of the primary path, and forwards the traffic to either the CE over the primary path or to the second egress node, depending on the status.

  • Patent number: 10171338
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods and systems for on-demand next-hop resolution. Aspects of the embodiments include receiving a triggering event to prompt a request for a path to a network location; requesting a path computation from a second network element based on receiving the triggering event; receiving the path computation from the second network element; and programming an output interface with an indication of the path computation received from the second network element.

  • Publication number: 20170026461
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for an intelligent load balancer. In some embodiments, a system can analyze activity data for egress links associated with a network. The system can also receive a service request originating from a remote device. Next, the system can select a server in the network for receiving the service request. Based on the activity data, the system can also select an egress link from the egress links for communicating data associated with the service request from the network to a remote destination location, such as the remote device. The system can then send a signal to the selected server which can include the service request and an indication of the egress link to be used for the data associated with the service request. The system can also later change the selected egress link for the service request if the system subsequently identifies a better egress link.

  • Patent number: 8001252
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for routing data within a packet-switched network using a PW wherein the PW is terminated directly on the layer-3 routing device such that certain services and applications can be utilized is presented. The method, apparatus and computer program product receives an encapsulated layer-2 Protocol Data Unit (PDU) from a pseudowire emulating a service. The encapsulation is removed from the encapsulated layer-2 PDU and a layer-2 circuit associated with the pseudowire is terminated. The circuit is treated as an interface and the PDU is forwarded based on upper layer protocol information within the PDU.

  • Publication number: 20070239891
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for providing point-to-multipoint multihop distribution using Pseudowires (PWs) is presented. Data is received at a switching provider edge (S-PE) router from an upstream originating provider edge (O-PE) router by way of a first PW, the first PW having a head-end coupled to the O-PE and a tail end coupled to the S-PE. The data received is replicated by the S-PE to at least one receiver provider edge (R-PE) router by way of a respective PW for each of the at least one R-PE, each of the respective PW between the S-PE and the R-PE having a head end coupled to the SPE and a tail end coupled to the R-PE.
