    Abstract: A method of measuring the signature of digital transmission equipment, in which the measurement can be performed during operation without adding special apparatus, and in which: the digital filtering on transmission is varied in order to simulate multiple paths; and the depth of fading is varied at each of a plurality of frequencies until a predetermined error rate is obtained. The invention also provides apparatus for implementing the method. The invention is particularly suitable for use with digital radio links.
