  • Publication number: 20120160393
Abstract: The object of the invention is a method for making devices with bistable nematic liquid crystals, having a nematic liquid crystal layer placed between two plates, each plate including a strip, an electrode and an alignment layer for nematic liquid crystal, at least one of said alignment layers having low zenithal anchoring for said liquid crystal, small pre-tilt and medium or strong azimuthal anchoring, wherein said at least one of the alignment layers is prepared by depositing a solution comprising a polymer, said polymer is a copolymer or a terpolymer derived from vinyl chloride and vinyl ethers, said solution further comprising an additive, selected from the group formed by aromatic polyimides, precursors of the aromatic polyamic acid type or a mixture of these compounds.

  • Publication number: 20090033853
Abstract: The invention concerns a liquid crystal display comprising two substrates (10, 20) provided with respective electrodes (12, 22), and located on either side of a layer of liquid crystal molecules (30), the electrodes arranged on one at least of the two substrates (10, 20) being coated with an anchoring layer (14, 24) defining a slight zenithal anchoring enabling the anchor to be ruptured and two textures of liquid crystal molecules whose difference in twisting is of the order of +/?180° to be switched, by hydrodynamic coupling between both substrates.

  • Patent number: 7088413
Abstract: The invention relates to a bistable nematic liquid-crystal device comprising: alignment means, which orient the liquid crystal, means designed to apply electrical signals which allow switching, by breaking the anchoring on at least one of the two substrates, between two distinct textures, and means designed to promote the establishment of that one of the said textures giving the off state in the liquid crystal covering the inter-electrode spaces.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 28, 2002
Date of Patent: August 8, 2006
    Assignee: Nemoptic
