  • Patent number: 6814078
Abstract: A surgical retractor liner and integral drape suitable for inserting in an incision and adjusting in place to prevent cross-contamination during surgery between the incised cavity and the surrounding skin of the patient. In one embodiment, a flexible elastic liner impervious to microorganisms has resilient inner and outer rings at opposite ends for holding the liner firmly in the incision. The outer ring is rolled down over itself drawing the liner taut and contiguous in the incision. In another embodiment, a skirt is sealingly joined at the outer ring and tapers outwardly and sealingly joins to a drape around a central aperture therein. The inner ring is inserted and expanded against the inner edge of the incision, and the outer ring is rolled down over the liner and skirt to draw the liner taut in the incision and to retract the sides of the incision while positively anchoring the drape in place around the area of the incision.

  • Patent number: 6485467
Abstract: Surgical apparatus for providing extracorporeal pneumoperitoneum. One embodiment provides a reversely turned fluid and gas impermeable fingerless sleeve (14) with a quick connect and disconnect assembly around the cuff of the sleeve (14) for sealing around an abdominal incision to allow hand-assisted minimally invasive surgery under conditions of pneumoperitoneum. A dome shaped enclosure (62) is provided for use with the quick connect and disconnect assembly to seal around an abdominal incision and maintain pneumoperitoneum during interruptions in a surgical procedure. Another embodiment incorporates a fingerless sleeve (14) which is adhesively secured directly to a patient's skin around an incision. The sleeve is applied over a pre-gloved surgeon's hand, and an outer surgical glove (18) is applied over the sleeve (14) in the region where the fingers and thumb protrude before the sleeve (14) is reversely turned on itself for connection to a patient.

  • Patent number: 6382211
Abstract: A surgical retractor liner (12) and integral drape (16) suitable for inserting in an incision and adjusting in place to prevent cross-contamination during surgery between the incised cavity and the surrounding skin of the patient. In one embodiment, a flexible elastic liner (12) impervious to microorganisms has resilient inner (20) and outer rings (18) at either end for holding the liner (12) firmly in the incision. The outer ring (18) is rolled down over itself drawing the liner (12) taut and contiguous in the incision. In another embodiment a skirt (14) is sealingly joined at the outer ring (18) and tapers outwardly and sealingly joins to a drape (16) around a central aperture (16a) therein.

  • Patent number: 5815975
Abstract: A gun bore cleaning system comprising a cleaning patch guide and holder, and a solvent and patch collector. The guide includes a tube having a tapered bushing at its forward end for abutting the breech end of the bore opening, and an inclined patch support surface near a rearward end holds a cleaning patch. As a cleaning rod is passed through the tube into the bore, it captures the patch, impregnated with a cleaning solvent, and pushes it through the bore into the solvent and patch collector mounted on the muzzle of the gun where the patch and any excess solvent are retained. The solvent and patch collector includes an adaptor mountable on the muzzle and a disposable container removably connected to the adaptor.

  • Patent number: 5524644
Abstract: An incrementally adjustable apparatus and method of use thereof for protecting an incised wound from exposure to bacterial and other harmful contaminants. A pair of resilient O-rings is connected to opposite ends of an impermeable pliable sleeve. One of the O-rings is formed to engage the inner edge of the wound with a portion of the sleeve above the wound capable of being rolled onto the other ring to draw the remaining sleeve portion contiguous with the sides of the wound. Flat surfaces on the other ring provide a gripping surface to turn the ring about its annular axis.
