  • Publication number: 20010036557
Abstract: Optical barrier compositions are provided that allow the production of thin solid surfacings without the problem of having visual characteristics of the substrate visible through the thin surfacing. The optical barriers are filled thermoplastic which inhibit at least 90% of light transmitted therethrough at a thickness between about 1 and about 50 mils. The optical barriers are designed to be interposed between the substrate and a decorative overlay which is either transparent or translucent.

  • Patent number: 5457152
Abstract: Filled crystalline thermoplastic resin chips are incorporated into a filled synthetic resin matrix for producing varicolored mineral appearing articles. Wollastonite filled polyphthalamide resin chips increase the surface hardness and decrease the ASTM E 84 Smoke Index of neopentyl glycol/isophthalic polyester molded articles. Crystalline thermoplastics can be extruded in shapes for providing varishaped chips.
