  • Patent number: 8819218
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for device level enablement of a communications protocol. An adapter compatibility module determines an adapter compatibility status for a plurality of host adapters. A positive adapter compatibility status indicates that each host adapter in the plurality of host adapters is compatible with a communications protocol. A processor compatibility module determines a processor compatibility status for one or more processors. The one or more processors coordinate data transfers to and from the plurality of host adapters. A positive processor compatibility status indicates that each of the one or more processors is compatible with the communications protocol. A compatibility summary module determines a compatibility summary for the plurality of host adapters and the one or more processors.

  • Publication number: 20060106823
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for an alternate lock facility connection path. A request module receives a connection request to establish redundant connection paths between a control unit and a host. A primary connection module establishes a first connection path between the control unit and the host through a first communication channel. An alternate connection module establishes a second connection path between the control unit and the host through a second communication channel. A detection module detects a failure of the first connection path. A redirection module redirects communication between the control unit and the host through the second connection path upon detection of a failure of the first connection path.

  • Publication number: 20060106964
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for grouping connection paths for lock attention data. A grouping request module is included to receive a request to establish a group of connection paths. Each connection path is configured to communicate lock attention data between a host and a control unit. The control unit is configured to control a storage device containing data accessible to a plurality of processes. A connection path selection module is included to select a plurality of connection paths between the host and the control unit and a grouping assignment module configured to assign the plurality of connection paths to a group. In one embodiment, an attention selection module is included to select an attention connection path for communicating lock attention data from any of the connection paths in the group. The attention selection module may select an attention connection path using a load balancing function.

  • Publication number: 20060036790
Abstract: Provided are method, system, and program for returning attention to a processing system requesting a lock. A lock request for a resource is received from the processing system. Indication is made of a connection path on which the processing system initially communicated an establish request to establish a connection. Attention is returned on the indicated connection path to the processing system to signal the processing system that the processing system may own the requested lock in response to the lock for the resource becoming available. Subsequent messages are received from and transmitted to the processing system concerning the resource on at least one additional path.

  • Publication number: 20060036782
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for managing path groups to an Input/Output (I/O) device. Indication is made of a connection path on which a processing system initially communicated an establish request to establish a connection with an I/O device, wherein attention that the processing system may own a lock for the I/O device is transmitted down the indicated connection path. A request is received from the processing system to add a path to a path group with respect to the I/O device, wherein the added path is capable of comprising the connection path the processing system used to establish the connection with the I/O device. The received path is added to the path group.
