  • Patent number: 5564123
Abstract: A single piece upper garment provides for ease of donning and removal by a physically challenged person and/or assistant or caretaker. The garment is formed of one or more sheets or sections of material in which all openings (neck, arms, and torso or trunk) are separable along at least one seam thereof, so the garment may be laid out substantially flat. The back portion may be placed against the back of a person (or the person may lie on the back portion), and the front portion wrapped around the person and closed along a lateral seam, similar to a conventional sewn side seam in a shirt or the like. The shoulders may then be closed, and the sleeves (if any) wrapped about the arms and closed, thereby providing a garment having a conventional appearance but providing for ease of donning and removal. The garment may include pockets and other conventional features, and may also include decorative but non-functional components such as a simulated front buttoned closure.
