Patent number: 10641756Abstract: A filtration system for a soil analysis device and methods of pressure filtration and automated cleaning are disclosed for generating filtrate used in measuring characteristics of a soil sample and preparing the filtration system for repeated measurements. A mixing chamber combines a soil sample and an extractant into a liquid mixture. The filtration system receives and pressure filters the liquid mixture to quickly generate filtrate used to measure characteristics of the sample. The filtrate is passed to a measurement cell for analysis. Once the analysis is complete, the filtration system performs a cleaning process in preparation to receive a subsequent liquid mixture from another soil sample.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2017Date of Patent: May 5, 2020Assignee: WINFIELD SOLUTIONS, LLCInventors: Bevan Gerber-Siff, Justin White, Stephen Prouty, Robert Tirrell, Michael Preiner, Nicholas Koshnick

Patent number: 9845166Abstract: A rail-captive sled for deploying payloads into outer space from a space launch vehicle. The sled is driven by a piston, powered by residual tank pressure from a tank native to the space launch vehicle. The rails are arranged parallel and adapted to a cross-sectional shape of a payload, such as small satellites or cubesats. The sled is a box frame sled with an adaptation to receive the piston. The rails may be attached to the residual pressure tank, with the piston in the residual pressure tank and aligned to the rails, or the pressure may be drawn from tank plumbing to a cylinder specific to the piston. The rails have a releasable closure to avoid unplanned egress of the payload, and the closure locks in the open position once released. The piston may be constrained by a direct constraint or by the closure via the payload.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 2015Date of Patent: December 19, 2017Assignee: Ventions, LLCInventors: Adam P London, Bevan Gerber-Siff

Patent number: 8767194Abstract: A soil analysis device and a method are disclosed for measuring characteristics of a soil sample. A mixing chamber combines a soil sample and an extractant into a liquid mixture. A filtration system receives and filters the liquid mixture. The filtered liquid mixture is transmitted to a measurement cell. The measurement cell is coupled to a light source so that light propagating from the light source is attenuated and/or reflected by the liquid mixture and is measured by one or more optical detectors that are also coupled to the measurement cell. The optical detector generates an attenuation spectrum and/or a reflection spectrum indicating light received by the one or more detectors at different wavelengths. The attenuation and/or reflection spectrum is used to determine the characteristics of the soil sample.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2013Date of Patent: July 1, 2014Assignee: Monsanto Technology LLCInventors: Michael John Preiner, Nicholas Carleton Koshnick, Justin Stewart White, Bevan Gerber-Siff

Patent number: 8477295Abstract: A soil analysis device and a method are disclosed for measuring characteristics of a soil sample. A mixing chamber combines a soil sample and an extractant into a liquid mixture. A filtration system receives and filters the liquid mixture. The filtered liquid mixture is transmitted through a pipe with a slope to a measurement cell. The measurement cell is coupled to a light source so that light propagating from the light source is attenuated by the liquid mixture and is measured by an optical detector that is also coupled to the measurement cell. The optical detector generates an attenuation spectrum indicating light received by the detector at different wavelengths.
