Abstract: A wettable media pad comprises an inlet side and an outlet side and a porous structure made from a non-woven material, comprising a plurality channels having a hexagonal cross-section defined by six walls, the channels running from the inlet side to the outlet side, wherein the wettable media pad is configured to direct fluid from a top surface of the media pad to a bottom surface of the media pad along at least one of the walls of the channels, wherein the wettable media pad is configured to exchange heat and mass between a fluid positioned on or in a wall of the channels and a gas flowing through the channels as the gas flows from the inlet side to the outlet side, and wherein the wettable media pad is produced with additive manufacturing. A method of making a wettable media pad is also described.

Abstract: A system for purifying and pre-conditioning intake air in an air conditioning unit comprises an energy exchange unit having an air inlet, an air outlet, a primary air flow running from the air inlet to the air outlet, and an active energy exchanging element or elements, and at least one spray washer having at least one nozzle, the spray washer positioned between the air inlet and the next active element, wherein the at least one spray washer is configured to dispense droplets of a fluid into the intake air from the at least one nozzle. A method for purifying and pre-conditioning intake air in an air conditioning unit is also described.

Abstract: A liquid desiccant air conditioning system comprises an energy exchange unit comprising a sump and a plurality of media pads positioned above the sump, first, second, and third desiccant outlets fluidly connected to the sump, and at least one retractable gate positioned above the sump, configured to partition the sump into at least first and second compartments, wherein the first compartment is fluidly connected to the first desiccant outlet and the second compartment is fluidly connected to the second desiccant outlet, and wherein effective volumes of the first and second compartments can be modified by opening and closing the at least one retractable gate. A method of controlling desiccant circulation in a liquid desiccant air conditioning system is also described.

Abstract: A method and system for conditioning air utilizing a liquid desiccant and the ability to use low grade and clean renewable heat sources for heating, cooling, dehumidifying and humidifying air as well as regenerating desiccant, with a low temperature differential for inlet and outlet air. Said system provides some filtering, purifying and sterilization of air. Said system may have low resistance through the system to lower fan energy. Said system may have low resistance through system pipework to lower pump energy.
