The method comprises: receiving from a network node, a request for resources in the shared channel; in response to the request, determining a utility function representing a performance metric for the network node based on transmissions from other network nodes using the shared channel; and in response to determining that the utility function satisfies a threshold, granting the resources in the shared channel to the network node. A controlling node is also provided for performing this method. The controlling node can be a Spectrum Access System (SAS), for example.
