    Abstract: Measurements comprising time-series stimuli and time-series responses of a computing platform that has executed a first set of jobs are collected over a first time period. The measurements are used to form a query-able predictive model pertaining to resource usage demand predictions for the first set of jobs. A second set of job records describe a second set of jobs to be invoked in a second time period. The predictive model is queried to determine a likelihood to complete by the predicted finish time based on resource usage demand predictions for the first set of jobs. A weighting factor related to a likelihood to complete the second set of jobs by a particular time is calculated. A reward value based on the weighting factor is assigned to respective jobs in the second set of jobs. Some of the second set of jobs are rescheduled, based on a then-current reward value.

A method for providing a connection between a guest virtual machine and a service virtual machine uses driver code functions to establish a listening port on the service virtual machine without providing a listening port on the guest virtual machine. The guest virtual machine initiates a remote procedure call socket between itself and the service virtual machine over a secure, hardened port. The service virtual machine presents an authority certificate by encoding into the authority certificate identifying information received from the guest virtual machine. The service virtual machine makes available (e.g., as an ISO image) the authority certificate, which is used to establish new secure connections.

    Abstract: A method commences upon receiving a request to migrate a subject virtual machine from a first computing machine to a second computing machine. An agent determines which storage assets are used by the subject virtual machine. The agent collects volume metadata pertaining to the storage assets and clones volume metadata from the first computing machine to the second computing machine. The data blocks comprising the volumes are not moved to the second computing machine until after migrating the subject virtual machine from the first computing machine to the second computing machine. After starting the migrated instance of the subject virtual machine, the migrated instance mounts volumes using the cloned metadata. The first computing machine and the second computing machine cooperate by processing storage asset block requests issued by the migrated virtual machine. Data blocks comprising the volume are moved on demand. The migrated virtual machine can be migrated yet again.
