  • Patent number: 9831843
Abstract: An audio playback path of an audio apparatus includes a digital modulator, a digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and a power amplifier. The digital modulator receives a playback signal corresponding to playback audio content and generates a digital input signal in accordance with the playback signal. The DAC receives the audio input signal and generates an analog preamplifier signal. The power amplifier generates an audio output signal in accordance with the preamplifier signal and an analog attenuation determined by the analog attenuation signal.

  • Patent number: 9634621
Abstract: A method may include providing a power supply voltage to a power supply input of a power amplifier by a charge pump power supply having a select input for selecting an operating mode of the charge pump power supply, such that in a first operating mode, the power supply voltage is equal to a first voltage, and such that in a second operating mode the power supply voltage is equal to a fraction of the first voltage; wherein the power amplifier has an audio input for receiving an audio input signal, and an audio output for providing the output signal, and generates the output signal based on the audio input signal.

  • Patent number: 9620101
Abstract: An audio amplifier circuit may include a power amplifier, a charge pump power supply, and a control circuit. The power amplifier may have an audio input for receiving an audio input signal, an audio output for providing the output signal, and a power supply input. The charge pump power supply may provide a power supply voltage to the power supply input. The charge pump power supply may have a select input for selecting an operating mode of the power supply. In a first operating mode, the power supply voltage may equal to a first voltage, and in a second operating mode, the power supply voltage may be substantially equal to a second voltage which is a rational fraction of the first voltage. The control circuit may generate the select input based on a magnitude of anti-noise generated by an adaptive noise cancellation system associated with the audio transducer.

  • Patent number: 9584082
Abstract: An audio device may include an electrical terminal for coupling a transducer device to the audio device and an audio circuit for generating an analog audio signal coupled to the electrical terminal. The audio circuit may include a pre-amplifier stage, an amplifier, and a gain selector. The pre-amplifier stage may apply a selectable gain to an audio input signal to generate a pre-amplified analog audio signal, wherein the pre-amplifier stage is powered by a first power supply. The amplifier may amplify the pre-amplified analog audio signal to generate the analog audio signal, wherein the amplifier is powered from a second power supply isolated from the first power supply. The gain selector may select the selectable gain based on a level of the first power supply, such that a difference between the second power supply and the analog audio signal is more than a predetermined headroom threshold voltage.

  • Patent number: 9438982
Abstract: In accordance with systems and methods of the present disclosure, an audio device may include an electrical terminal, an audio circuit, and a transducer load detection circuit. The electrical terminal may couple a transducer device to the audio device. The audio circuit may generate an analog audio signal, wherein the analog audio signal is coupled to the electrical terminal. The transducer load detection circuit may detect a load impedance of the transducer device when the transducer device is coupled to the audio device from characteristics measured at the electrical terminal.

  • Patent number: 9293986
Abstract: Kickback current from a charge pump to a power management integrated circuit (PMIC) may be reduced by dissipating charge from fly and hold capacitors during mode transitions. A switch may be placed in series between the charge pump and the PMIC to disconnect the charge pump and prevent kickback current from reaching the PMIC. Further, additional loads, as switches, may be coupled to the charge pump outputs to dissipate charge from the fly and hold capacitors. Additionally, a closed feedback loop may be used to monitor and discharge excess charge from the fly and hold capacitors during mode transitions. Furthermore, charge may be redistributed between the fly and hold capacitors during mode transitions to reduce the time period of the transition.

  • Publication number: 20160056777
Abstract: A charge pump power supply may comprise a plurality of capacitors and a switching circuit for switching the capacitors to provide a first voltage or a second voltage in accordance with the select input. The charge pump power supply may have a signal polarity input for indicating a polarity of an output audio signal. Switches for switching one or more capacitors providing a first polarity voltage in a then-current operating mode may be configured to switch at a greater frequency than switches for switching one or more capacitors providing a second polarity voltage responsive to the signal polarity input indicating a positive polarity of the output audio signal. Switches for switching one or more capacitors providing the first polarity voltage in a then-current operating mode are configured to switch at a lesser frequency than switches for switching one or more capacitors providing the second polarity voltage responsive to the signal polarity input indicating a negative polarity of the output audio signal.
