    Abstract: A scanner performs an initial low resolution scan of an area including an image and, after analyzing the initial scan data to determine the type of the image, a computer sends commands to the scanner to direct the scanner to perform a second scan. The second scan can be limited to the precise area of the image, and can be customized to perform efficient scanning based in the image type (e.g., color vs. black and white, or photo vs. text).
