  • Patent number: 7757437
Abstract: A horizontally sliding door includes a resilient retention system that helps hold a door panel tightly against its seals when the door is closed, and resiliently releases the door panel when an external force displaces the panel beyond its normal path of travel. If the door panel is displaced off its normal path, the resilience of the retention system or simply opening and closing the door automatically returns the panel back to normal operation. The resilient retention system can be installed off the floor, so the system avoids creating a tripping hazard and avoids being damaged by nearby vehicles.

  • Patent number: 7699089
Abstract: Two or more panels of a power-operated folding door are supported by a novel articulated arm assembly that ensures that the door closes tightly against a wall-mounted seal and easily opens. The articulated arm assembly includes a connector with two spaced-apart pivot points about which two adjoining arms of the assembly can rotate as the door opens and closes. The two pivot points allow the panels to readily fold up and store more compactly when the door is open. To provide an airtight seal where two leading panels come together at the center of the doorway, one or more control mechanisms coupled to the articulated arm assembly ensure that the leading panels overlap when the door is closed.

  • Publication number: 20090236052
Abstract: A sideways rollup door with a horizontal side-rolling curtain includes a vertical roller that is shielded by a pliable shroud. The shroud is supported by a frame that includes a breakaway feature and/or readily replaceable frame elements. To access the roller for servicing, the frame elements allow the shroud to be selectively moved (without the use of tools) between an installed position and a retracted position. In some cases, the breakaway feature enables the shroud to break away in certain directions easier than others. In some embodiments, the shroud includes a seal that engages the curtain when the shroud is in the installed position.

  • Publication number: 20090236051
Abstract: A sideways rollup door with a horizontal side-rolling curtain includes a replaceable bottom seal that is zippered or otherwise removably connected to the curtain at an inclined joint. The inclination of the joint ensures that the joint wraps upon the curtain's take-up roller in an approximate helical pattern so as to prevent the joint from creating a concentrated bulge on the roller. In some cases, there is extra space underneath the roller to provide roll-up room for the bottom seal, which can be relatively thick. Such extra space could be further used to accommodate a seal joint and/or other curtain seams that are not necessarily inclined.

  • Publication number: 20090235589
Abstract: A horizontal side-moving door with a side-winding curtain or horizontally translating panel includes a breakaway brace that helps hold a relatively rigid leading edge of the curtain or panel in a substantially vertical orientation. Should a forklift accidentally strike the leading edge of the curtain or panel, a replaceable shear pin incorporated in the brace breaks away to release the leading edge, thus protecting the edge from damage. Although the shear pin can break into two or more pieces, the brace includes means for holding the pieces in place and preventing them from falling and hitting anything underneath the pin. Although with some limitations, the door is still operational even while the pin is broken.

  • Publication number: 20080110580
Abstract: A vertically operating door includes a flexible panel comprising two pliable sheets of material with a layer of thermal insulation between the two. The door includes means for preventing or relieving undesirable air pressure conditions inside the panel. In some cases, a hose from a suction inlet of a blower extends into the space between the two sheets so that when the door is closed with the bottom of the panel resting upon the floor, the blower draws out excess air that happens to leak into the hollow interior of the panel. In other cases, air passageways are created to release or redistribute the excess air inside the panel. The door includes an inflatable seal that helps prevent frost from forming on the door panel's vertical guide tracks, thus the door is particularly suited for refrigerated cold storage rooms.

  • Patent number: 6942000
Abstract: An improved coupling mechanism for adjacent panels of a sectional door, the panels including facing, adjacent edges; the coupling mechanism including at least one recess formed in or disposed adjacent to the facing edge of each panel, and also including at least one pliable hinge member having a body portion, and expanded regions at each end of the body portion, which are received within and movable within the facing recesses to provide for the relative movement between the facing edges of the panels as the door moves between blocking and unblocking positions.

  • Patent number: 6698490
Abstract: A guiding mechanism for use in combination with an industrial door that includes an extension member extending across a doorway when the door is in a doorway blocking position is provided. The guiding mechanism includes a guard bracket extending along the doorway and having a mounting segment and a guard segment, and a track extending along the doorway and including a guideway for receiving a roller of the extension member and for guiding the roller as the door moves between blocking and unblocking positions. The track is affixedly mounted to the mounting segment such that the guard segment protects the track from an obstacle during a track impact condition.
