  • Publication number: 20140069001
Abstract: This application provides planting mix compositions that include pelletized coir. Seed, cornmeal or corn flour, fungicide, and optionally activated charcoal, compost, and/or a super-absorbent polymer (SAP) can be included in the planting mix compositions. Methods of making such compositions are also disclosed herein. In particular examples, such compositions include pelletized coir at least partially coated with a binder, seeds, charcoal, and optionally a SAP. In other examples, such compositions include a pelletized mixture that includes coir, cornmeal or corn flour, charcoal, a SAP, compost, a fungicide, and seeds, wherein the seeds are encased within the pellets.

  • Patent number: 8590174
Abstract: An exemplary system for removing soil from seed comprises an auger portion, a centrifuge portion and/or a dryer portion. The auger portion comprises an inclined enclosure and an auger positioned within the enclosure and is configured to mix seed with a liquid, remove soil from the seed, and separate washed seed from the liquid and the removed soil. The centrifuge portion comprises at least one centrifuge having an outer drum and a rotatable inner basket positioned within the outer drum. The inner basket comprises a side wall having a plurality of apertures. The inner basket is configured to receive washed seed from the auger portion within the inner basket and to centrifugally separate additional liquid from the washed seed, the separated liquid passing through the plurality of apertures into the outer drum. The dryer portion further reduces moisture content of the seed using heat.

  • Publication number: 20110168601
Abstract: Bags that can be used to store and sell grass seed are provided. The bags include a valve that permits air to be removed from the bag after it is filled with seed and sealed, but prevents air from entering the bag. This increases the storage life of the seed. Also provided are methods for using such a bag, for example to increase the shelf-life of the seed.

  • Patent number: 4869235
Abstract: A wheel supported vehicle having a burning chamber, a draft stack in communication with a forward end of the burning chamber and a burner at a rear of the burning chamber. An air mover means operable to deliver air to the stack and to the burning chamber. As the vehicle is moved forwardly over a field, the heat from burning combustible material at the rearward end of the chamber will be drawn forwardly to evaporate moisture from the combustible material in the path of the chamber so that it will move readily ignite and burn clearly.
