  • Patent number: 4381863
Abstract: To augment the spin and lift imparted to a bowling ball as it leaves the hand of the bowler, there are mounted in the finger holes inserts having inwardly protuberant ridges at the rims thereof. The tips of the fingers are hooked around these ridges when the ball is gripped, and continue to be at least partially hooked therearound during release of the ball, so that there is sufficient force imparted to the ball during release to create improved spin and lift. There is provided on the inner ends of the inserts walls having central holes therethrough, for purposes of aiding insertion of the inserts, relieving air pressure, and permitting inspection at any time.

  • Patent number: 4374439
Abstract: This invention provides a bowler's wrist support that includes a flexible body adapted to be wrapped around the hand and wrist with straps to hold it in position. A rigid reinforcement may be included to prevent bending of the wrist. The body includes a pocket within which fits a pad which is positioned at the palm of the hand when the device is worn. The pocket is larger than the pad, so that the pad may be moved around to the optimum position. The contour of the pad follows the shape of the hand so as to not interfere with movement of the hand or to cause discomfort.

  • Patent number: 4262385
Abstract: An elongated, generally hourglass shaped weight-cushioning device for attachment to the handles of a bowling ball carrying bag has an outer layer of relatively thin vinyl material and a somewhat thicker inner layer of foam padding material. The outer layer has a shape substantially identical to but slightly longer than that of the inner layer. In constructing the device, the layers are superimposed with an end of the first layer being aligned with an end of the second layer. The layers are then simultaneously bent longitudinally and attached by a continuous line of stitches around and adjacent the peripheral edges of the layers in a manner such that, subsequent to the attachment, the peripheral edges of the outer and inner layers are brought into congruent alignment. This imparts a slight longitudinal curvature to the device, the outer layer being curved outwardly of the inner layer.

  • Patent number: 4047250
Abstract: This invention provides a contoured wrist support that includes a sheet portion adapted to be wrapped around the wrist, the sheet portion being made up of more than one element having contoured edges stitched together so as to provide it with a three-dimensional shape, the sheet portion having a cushioning lining and pockets for receiving three reinforcing members. One of the reinforcing members is rigid and complementarily overlies the back of the hand and wrist. A second reinforcing member is generally rigid but can be deflected slightly by hand and complementarily overlies the palm of the hand and inside of the wrist. The third reinforcing member, between the first and second reinforcing members, is positioned along the outer side edge of the hand and wrist and made of malleable material so that it can be deflected by the user to assume the contour of his hand and wrist.
