  • Patent number: 5564340
Abstract: A coke oven door extractor is mounted on the rail car and includes door engaging supports movable in individually differing amounts relative to a plane parallel to and including the door jamb and a door jamb height axis of symmetry and movable vertically, allowing the door extractor to compensate for front-to-back tilting and side-to-side leaning of the coke oven door jamb due to thermal distortion of the battery and variations in individual door heights. The extractor includes a first frame pivotally mounted to the car, a second frame horizontally translatably mounted to the first frame, and a third frame vertically translatably and pivotally mounted to the second frame, with the third frame including the door supports.

  • Patent number: 5447106
Abstract: A coke oven rail car with a drive control system for positioning the car and for spotting the functional equipment carried by the car. A sensor determines the relative position of the car with respect to a selected oven in a coke oven battery. The car includes a first drive for effecting gross movement of the car along the rails and gross positioning of the car relative to the selected oven. The car further includes a second automatically controlled drive for effecting fine movement of the caw along the rails and fine positioning of the car relative to the selected oven. In one embodiment the first drive is manually controlled, while in another embodiment the first drive is automatically controlled. The second automatically controlled drive can take the form of one or two disk clutch type mechanisms or a clutch band type mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5443696
Abstract: Coke oven doors and more particularly coke oven doors having a unique and novel spring arrangement for maintaining the knife edge of the sealing element in sealed relation to the face of the coke oven door jamb, an improved sealing arrangement at the leveler door, scalloped cutouts in the main frame components to increase efficiency of heat dissipation, a manual adjustment structure incorporated into the main door frame to provide more positive and controlled flexibility of the main door frame and the provision of cuts in the door frame and the manner in which the diaphragm plate is connected to the refractory to provide space for the door frame to flex when adjustments are made.

  • Patent number: 5238539
Abstract: A coke oven door has a mainframe, a diaphragm plate mounted on the mainframe, a seal mounted peripherally on the diaphragm plate, and plungers mounted peripherally on the mainframe for applying adjusting force to the seal. The seal is adapted for angular contact with a door jamb, and is backed by individual leaf springs arranged in end-to-end relation which are operable to provide rigidity to the seal when the seal is in contact with the jamb. The seal is locally adjustable with the plungers. The mainframe includes a pair of generally parallel side plates having slots along their lengths and a turnbuckle spanning each slot. The turnbuckles provide for flexing the mainframe into a desired configuration for initial adjustment of the door to a door jamb.

  • Patent number: 4919764
Abstract: A retrofit coke oven door seal to replace existing coke oven door seals that have become ineffective due to normal use. The retrofit coke oven door seal includes a leaf spring and seal arrangement and a unique mounting structure to enable the existing seal on a coke oven door to be easily removed and replaced by the present invention without modification of alteration to the door body or the existing refractories thus making improvements (in emission control) on existing doors by using a relatively simple structure which is cost effective. The retrofit seal for coke oven doors includes a mounting structure attached to the periphery of the diaphragm plate normally provided on a coke oven door together with fastening devices securing a leaf spring and seal assembly in a manner to enable easy removal and replacement thereof if necessary.

  • Patent number: 4527486
Abstract: A mine supply car has fixed, rail-engageable wheels, and adjustable selectively useable road wheels mounted in elongate frames along the sides of the car. The road wheels are mounted on pivot arms for swinging movement between raised inoperative positions and lowered operative positions. The arrangement allows the car to be converted between rail and road use by relatively effortless manual movement of the road wheels.

  • Patent number: 4186055
Abstract: A coke oven door construction, adaptable for either the pusher side or the coke side of the oven, has a diaphragm arranged so as to exert an even pressure all around the door and associated jamb when the door is locked in the jamb by a suitable locking device. After the door has been locked in place, air is connected to the bottom of the door so as to permit injection of a mixture of air and a suitable anti-stick agent all around the door diaphragm and onto the sealing surface of the associated jamb. The anti-stick agent keeps carbon and other foreign matter from sticking to the diaphragm and jamb surfaces. Further, if a fire occurs between the sealing surfaces, it can be extinguished by connecting the air to the doors. The air mixed with the anti-stick agent is preferably preheated before it reaches the jamb surface so as to prevent warping of the jambs.

  • Patent number: 4110171
Abstract: An upstanding support is provided and a carriage is mounted on the support for vertical reciprocation between predetermined upper and lower limit positions on the support. A jamb cleaning head is mounted on the carriage for vertical reciprocation therewith along and for cleaning an adjacent upstanding jamb portion. A support structure stationarily positioned relative to an associated coke oven jamb and mounting structure is provided for supporting the upstanding support relative to the stationary support structure for vertical shifting relative thereto. First drive structure is connected between the support and the carriage for driving the latter along the former between the aforementioned limit positions and reversible second drive structure is connected between the stationary support structure and the upstanding support for reversibly variably shifting the upstanding support relative to the stationary support structure.
