Patent number: 7658229Abstract: The present invention is directed to producing fluid from an oil or gas well by means of a combination intermittently filled down hole chamber accumulation device and a connected upper continuous gas lift flow system, separated by an inline one-way reverse flow check valve. A two-way purge and vent valve controls the distribution of high pressure gas. The two-way valve first injects high pressure gas into the chamber accumulation device to displace the fluid from the chamber into the continuous flow conduit. The two-way valve then vents the residual high pressure gas from the chamber into a separate low pressure conduit to the surface. The valve also provides high pressure gas to the continuous flow conduit to assist in the production of the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: February 9, 2010Assignee: BST Lift Systems, LLCInventors: Billy G. Becker, David A. Tucker

Patent number: 7370706Abstract: A unique gas lift valve bellows assembly in which an internal piston incorporated within the bellows provides over travel prevention and over pressure protection during valve operation, independent of the set or operating gas pressures exerted on the gas lift valve. The piston separates a hydraulic damping reservoir in the interior convolutions of the bellows from the upper gas volume chamber. The piston travels a pre-set distance between two stops to provide a fluid dampened hydraulic balance across the bellows convolutions in both the open and closed positions of the valve. This results in a long lived bellows valve that can operate with any pressure up to the limits of the material, without overstressing the bellows.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2006Date of Patent: May 13, 2008Inventors: Billy G. Becker, David A. Tucker

Patent number: 5782261Abstract: A sidepocket gas lift mandrel assembly for installation in coiled tubing for providing gas lift to oil and gas wells is disclosed. The mandrel assembly includes inwardly projecting members offset from the centerline of the internal diameter of the housing which is adapted to receive wireline retrievable valves and latches. The gas lift mandrel housing is adapted to be connected to coiled tubing and may be of various geometric configurations for allowing the gas lift mandrel to be run into the well with coiled tubing. Conventional kickover tools are modified to include helical grooves that engage inwardly projecting camming and orienting surfaces of the mandrel assembly to orient, position and stabilize the tools while installing or retrieving wireline retrievable valve and latch assemblies.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1995Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Inventors: Billy G. Becker, David A. Tucker, Sr.

Patent number: 4606410Abstract: Disclosed is a method of inserting and removing tubular valves into and from the secondary bore of a mandral having a main bore and a laterally offset secondary bore. The method includes the steps of positioning a whipstock plug having a sloping upper surface in the main bore and orienting the whipstock plug such that the upper surface slopes toward the secondary bore. The valves are removed by deflecting a retrieving tool off the upper surface of the whipstock plug to engage and remove the tubular valve from the secondary bore. The valves are inserted by deflecting the valve off the upper surface and into the secondary bore. After removal or insertion of a valve, the whipstock plug is removed from the main bore.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1984Date of Patent: August 19, 1986Assignee: BST Lift Systems, Inc.Inventors: Billy G. Becker, Charles V. Swafford

Patent number: 4508166Abstract: Disclosed are a subsurface safety system and a method of inserting into or removing from an offset bore of a mandrel a tubular valve. The system includes an entry mandrel having a full bore outlet, a full bore primary inlet and a laterally offset full bore secondary inlet. A full bore primary tubing extends downwardly from the primary inlet to a formation. A full bore secondary vent tubing is connected to the secondary inlet and extends down the hole generally parallel to the primary tubing and includes an open lower end positioned in the annulus above the formation. A dual packer is provided in the system between the entry mandrel and the lower end of the secondary tubing. The secondary tubing includes a vent above the packer and the upper end of the secondary tubing is normally closed by a removable plug. Subsurface safety valves are provided in both the primary and secondary tubings. The subsurface safety valve in the secondary tubing is positioned between the open lower end and the vent.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1983Date of Patent: April 2, 1985Assignee: BST Lift Systems, Inc.Inventors: Billy G.
