  • Patent number: 7957721
Abstract: To facilitate, e.g., determination of access rights in a shared network context, a telecommunications network transmits, in a broadcast channel over an air interface, an access group eligibility message to a user equipment unit. The access group eligibility message enables the user equipment unit to ascertain, on a basis of access group to which the user equipment unit belongs, whether the user equipment unit is eligible to operate in a cell for which the access group eligibility message is transmitted. The telecommunications network also includes a core network node which, classifies the user equipment unit in at least one of plural access groups. Further, the core network node generates an access group classification message which advises the user equipment unit as to which of the plural access groups the user equipment unit belongs.

  • Patent number: 6934546
Abstract: Radiocommunication systems having improved soft handoff capabilities are described. During soft handoff a mobile station may have several transmission sources (active set members) supplying it with substantially the same information. Mobile stations which are not moving may not require as many sources to provide adequate received signal quality. Therefore, mobile stations which are not moving are identified using locating techniques and members of the active set are compared with a higher threshold to remove weaker branches more rapidly than when using a threshold that is applied to mobile stations that are in motion.

  • Patent number: 6560205
Abstract: A loop network hub including a hub port with a loop initialization insertion mechanism. The loop initialization insertion mechanism causes a hub port which detects a new node port connection to automatically begin generating loop initialization data. A hub port continues to generate loop initialization data until that hub port receives a loop initialization sequence. The loop initialization data propagates around the loop of the hub, halting ordinary processing. In this way, the entire loop is cleared. Upon receiving a loop initialization sequence, the hub port originating the loop initialization data inserts the new node port into the loop. At this point, loop initialization begins and each node port in the loop network obtains a unique loop network address.

  • Patent number: 6442393
Abstract: A method and system for automatically mapping areas of poor network coverage or high interference in a cellular network uses signal quality measures and mobile station location information. The system constructs a visual map that notes the locations of mobile stations when unacceptable base station-mobile station signal quality is reported. The visual map can be used for identifying areas of the network that may require remediation to ensure sufficient network coverage.

  • Publication number: 20020111180
Abstract: To facilitate, e.g., determination of access rights in a shared network context, a telecommunications network transmits, in a broadcast channel over an air interface, an access group eligibility message (300-2) to a user equipment unit (30). The access group eligibility message enables the user equipment unit to ascertain, on a basis of access group to which the user equipment unit belongs, whether the user equipment unit is eligible to operate in a cell for which the access group eligibility message is transmitted. The telecommunications network also includes a core network node (18, 20) which, upon receipt of request for/from the user equipment unit, classifies the user equipment unit in at least one of plural access groups. Further, the core network node generates, for transmission to the user equipment unit through the radio access network, an access group classification message (300-1) which advises the user equipment unit as to which of the plural access groups the user equipment unit belongs.

  • Patent number: 6351642
Abstract: A system and method for improving soft hand-off in a CDMA system uses mobile station location and velocity information to maintain soft hand-off legs with those cells in which the mobile station is more likely to be located. The system and method of the present invention estimates the weighted probability of the mobile station arriving in neighboring cells and produces “bias” values for those cells that the mobile station is more likely to be entering or to be located in. These bias values are used for modifying signal quality values for those cells, and for determining whether the current cell or neighbor cells are to be placed in an active set so as to establish, or maintain, soft hand-off legs. The system and method of the present invention thus chooses those cells which are more likely to be retained as soft hand-off legs and therefore reduces the overall number of soft hand-offs.
