  • Publication number: 20240300874
Abstract: Disclosed is method that involves subjecting a base material to an extraction process to extract hydrocarbon fractions having molecular weights within a desired range from the base material to generate a resultant extraction material comprising mostly if not entirely of hydrocarbon fractions having molecular weights within the desired range. In some embodiments, the extraction process can involve performing the extraction in iterations.

  • Publication number: 20240279111
Abstract: Embodiments relate to use of Limestone Rock Aggregate (“LRA”) as a component used to manufacture clinker, wherein the clinker is used in the manufacture of Portland cement. LRA is a naturally occurring limestone deposit that has been impregnated with various bituminous and hydrocarbon components, including asphaltenes and lighter hydrocarbons. Because of the presence of hydrocarbon components, LRA is “energy positive” making it easier (e.g., requiring less energy) to kiln heat than pure, or common, limestone. As will be explained herein, the LRA can be treated before being used as a component cement manufacture. The treatment of the LRA can involve removal, or extraction, of certain bituminous material (e.g., light hydrocarbons from the LRA). This extracted bituminous material can be used in other material processes (e.g., crude oil refining). The treatment of LRA can also involve manipulating the gradation of crushed LRA material to improve its minerology for cement production.

  • Patent number: 12031041
Abstract: A method involving either: determining a first amount of asphalt emulsion required to generate a mixture for roadway material so that the roadway material will exhibit a predetermined strength; or adding a first amount of asphalt emulsion to a road base material to generate a mixture for roadway material and determining a strength of the mixture. The method involves determining an amount of maltene compounds to be mixed with a second amount of asphalt emulsion so that a mixture of the second amount of asphalt emulsion and the amount of maltene compounds used to generate roadway material will exhibit the predetermined strength or the strength, the second amount of asphalt emulsion being less than the first amount of asphalt emulsion. The method involves generating a mixture including the second amount of asphalt emulsion, the amount of maltene compounds, and the road base material.

  • Publication number: 20200048466
Abstract: Disclosed are binder formulations that can be configured to reduce or limit the evaporation of volatile solvents of an asphalt concrete within which the binder is used. Some embodiments can relate to an asphalt concrete having an embodiment of the binder. Additional embodiments can involve methods of producing the binder and/or the asphalt concrete.

  • Publication number: 20190100460
Abstract: Embodiments can include use of at least one additive to process or condition drill cuttings. The drill cuttings may be further used as a product, a component of a product, and/or in another process. For example, the drill cuttings may be used as aggregate for roadway material (e.g., asphalt stabilized material, asphalt cement concrete, etc.). The conditioning can include modifying a mechanical property of the roadway material, modifying the ability to encapsulate toxins within the asphalt so as to prevent or inhibit leaching of toxins, modifying the ability to absorb volatile hydrocarbon fractions to as to improve stability of the roadway material, etc.
