    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Random access channel (RACH) occasions may be scheduled on each component carrier (CC) of a carrier aggregation (CA) configuration that includes both a time division duplexing (TDD) TD Raid band and at least one frequency division duplexing (FDD) band based on a synchronization signal/physical broadcast channel block (SSB) received in the TDD band. In some cases, the TDD band may be used to configure the RACH occasions in same and/or different CCs. Additionally or alternatively, the FDD band may configure the RACH occasions on its uplink CC based on SSBs received on other CCs. Additionally, the RACH occasions may be configured such that the UE avoids unavailable uplink slots when transmitting a first RACH message in a RACH occasion.

The switching configuration may be associated with switching one or more uplink transmission chains of the UE from or to one or more carriers of the three or more carriers within a time period. The switching configuration may be associated with a UE capability. The switching configuration may permit switching from or to one carrier within the time period associated with the UE capability. The switching configuration may permit switching from or to two carriers within the time period associated with the UE capability. The switching configuration may depend on the UE capability, thereby not causing the uplink transmission switching to degrade a performance of the UE.

A user equipment (UE) switch between carriers of a group of a carriers during uplink communications in accordance with a mapping. For example, the UE may report its capability to a base station for switching between carriers of the group, where the group includes a supplementary uplink (SUL) carrier and two or more normal uplink (NUL) carriers that are each associated with a different radio frequency band. The base station may indicate for the UE to switch to a subset of carriers of the group corresponding to a combination of radio frequency bands for transmission of an uplink message. The UE may switch to at least one carrier of the subset of carriers in accordance with a mapping that is based on the reported capability and may transmit the uplink message on the at least one carrier.
