  • Publication number: 20090169083
Abstract: In a method and device for correcting distortion in MRI, k-space data are acquired in a number of data readout directions, the data are converted into a number of images, and a corresponding pixel shift map is generated for each image. The geometric distortion in the corresponding image is corrected according to the pixel shift map, and then all geometric distortion-corrected images are combined. Since movement distortion normally exists in the data readout direction, collecting the k-space data from a number of data readout directions can effectively correct movement distortion. Moreover, correcting the geometric distortion for the images converted from data acquired in a number of data readout directions according to the pixel shift map can reduce the geometric distortion of the final image generated from combination of images. The method and device correct not only movement distortion of MRI images, but also geometric distortion of MRI images.

  • Publication number: 20090169084
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for correcting distortion during magnetic resonance imaging k space data in a number of readout encoding directions, wherein the sampling points on the phase encoding lines are concentrated in low frequency regions and their number is less than that of full sampling points. A view angle tilting compensation gradient is superimposed on the axis of a layer selection gradient. The k space data acquired from the number of directions are then combined. Due to the fact that the superimposition of the view angle tilting compensation gradient on the axis of the slice selection gradient can effectively correct geometric distortions, and at the same time the resolution in phase encoding lines is relatively high, low resolution contents are provided only in readout encoding directions, so the degree of blurring in the final image is substantially reduced. Furthermore, by acquiring the k space data in a number of readout directions the sensitivity to motion artifacts can effectively be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7521930
Abstract: In a method and apparatus for accelerating MR temperature imaging used in MR-monitored high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy, temperature changes are determined at the focus of the ultrasound during MR temperature imaging; determining the ideal acceleration rate needed for data sampling according to the temperature changes at said focus is determined, the variable-density (VD) data sampling in k-space is adjusted according to the determined ideal acceleration rate, and the data obtained from sampling are reconstructed to form an image. The capability of accelerating MR temperature imaging with both good temporal resolution and good spatial resolution is improved by determining the acceleration rate according to temperature changes at the ultrasound focus and by adjusting the VD data sampling of k-space and thereby the benefits of good flexibility, feasibility and stability are achieved.

  • Patent number: 7502426
Abstract: An improved system and method for estimating one or more parameters, such as amplitude and signal-to-noise ratio, of a received signal, such as an M-QAM or q-ASK signal, is set forth herein. The amplitude of an M-QAM signal is estimated based upon known or ascertainable phase information regarding a plurality of transmitted symbols. The amplitude of a q-ASK signal is estimated based upon known or ascertainable magnitude information regarding a plurality of transmitted symbols. In another embodiment, the amplitude of an M-QAM or q-ASK signal is estimated based on statistical knowledge of the amplitude of the transmitted symbols. Other embodiments of the present invention estimate amplitude, noise power, and signal-to-noise ratio of a received signal utilizing second-order and fourth-order moments of received samples, a maximum likelihood searching process, or a Kurtosis estimation process.

  • Publication number: 20090060098
Abstract: A method for differential phase evaluation of M-ary communication data is employed in which the data consists of N sequential symbols r1 . . . rN, each having one of M transmitted phases. Selected sequences of N?1 elements that represent possible sequences of phase differentials are evaluated using multiple-symbol differential detection. Using r1 as the reference for each phase differential estimate, sN?1 phase differential sequences are selected in the form (P2i, P3i, . . . , PNi) for i=1 to s for evaluating said symbol set, where s is predetermined and 1<s<M. Each set of s phase differential estimate values are chosen based on being the closest in value to the actual transmitted phase differential value. These s phase differential estimates can be determined mathematically as those which produce the maximum results using conventional differential detection.

  • Patent number: 7499406
Abstract: A method and apparatus for estimating and reporting the quality of a wireless communication channel between a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and a Node-B. A modulated signal is received from the Node-B over the communication channel and a channel estimation is performed on the modulated signal to provide a channel estimate. In one embodiment, the modulated signal is demodulated based on the channel estimate to provide a demodulated signal and a signal-to-interference (SIR) estimate based on the demodulated signal is obtained. The quality of the communication channel is estimated based on at least the SIR estimate. In an alternate embodiment, a SIR estimate based on the channel estimate is obtained. The quality of the communication channel is estimated based on the SIR estimate and additional information including at least one of delay spread, transmit power and WTRU velocity information.
