  • Publication number: 20060268687
Abstract: In a Voice Over IP telephone system, a method and system for switching to a backup gateway. Only the media path is maintained during the switchover. The call setup information and the history of the call (that is, the control path information) are not maintained, thereby greatly simplifying the switchover. Since the call setup information is not maintained, the calls that are switched to the backup gateway cannot be terminated in a normal manner. Instead, the calls are terminated by detecting inactivity in the media path.
