  • Patent number: 8144862
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use in suppressing acoustic echo in a target speech signal being transmitted through a packet-based communications network uses frame energy estimation applied to the target speech signal and to a reference speech signal. The method or apparatus estimates one or more reference speech energy levels in one or more reference packets based on one or more of the speech parameters generated by the speech encoding of the reference signal; estimates a target speech energy level in a target packet based on one or more of the speech parameters generated by the speech encoding of the target signal; compares the target speech energy level to one or more reference speech energy levels; and detects an echo in the target speech signal based on the comparison of the target speech energy level to the one or more reference speech energy levels.

  • Patent number: 7852792
Abstract: In a method for echo suppression or cancellation, a reference voice packet is selected from a plurality of reference voice packets based on at least one encoded voice parameter associated with each of the plurality of reference voice packets and the targeted voice packet. Echo in the targeted packet is suppressed or cancelled based on the selected reference voice packet.

  • Patent number: 7522629
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting signaling messages over the communication channel to a CDMA mobile station. If a one-half, one-quarter, or one-eighth frame voice packet is to be transmitted, augmenting that packet with signaling information to form, essentially, a full rate frame; if no more than N consecutive full rate frames are detected, deferring transmission of the signaling message, and thereafter, if another full frame voice frame is detected, substituting a frame of signaling information for the full frame voice frame. Advantageously, using this arrangement, most short signaling messages can be transmitted to a CDMA mobile station with minimal voice impairment.

  • Publication number: 20090094026
Abstract: A method of processing a communication includes determining an estimated excitation energy component of a subframe of a coded frame. A filter energy component of the subframe is also estimated. Determining an estimated energy of the subframe is based upon the estimated excitation energy component and the estimated filter energy component. This technique allows for estimating frame energy of a communication such as a voice communication without having to fully decode the communication.

  • Publication number: 20070202930
Abstract: An embedded echo canceller in a wireless network is tested by routing traffic signals through the echo canceller and measuring input and output signals of the echo canceller as it operates to remove echo signals from the traffic signals. To test the operation of the echo canceller in regards to a plurality of hybrid circuits, a hybrid interface box controlled by an echo canceller test program is attached to an upstream end of the echo canceller. An ISUP communication is established between two wireless units, through the echo canceller and a loop around trunk. The communication is traced, and a traffic channel portion of the communication (separate from a signaling channel) is broken. Because the two channels are separate under ISUP, this does not terminate the communication. The hybrid interface box is controlled to inject test signals into the traffic channel, and the operation of the echo canceller is measured.

  • Publication number: 20070097957
Abstract: A method for gracefully degrading packet data voice quality in a wireless network includes monitoring and evaluating data transfer conditions on the network. This may be done on a network-wide level, or for access terminals individually. For the evaluation, data transfer conditions are compared to criteria that indicate a relative quality level. Based on the evaluation, a variable number of the voice data packets addressed to the access terminals are eliminated prior to transmission over the airlink. If conditions are optimal, no data packets are eliminated. If not, one or more packets may be eliminated periodically (e.g., 1 data packet out of every five) until conditions change. The access terminals compensate for any eliminated packets. In this manner, packet data voice quality is gracefully degraded for temporarily reducing voice traffic on the network when conditions are poor, avoiding the need for dropped calls or the like.

  • Publication number: 20060262719
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of wireless communication on a first channel. The method may include delaying transmission on the first channel of a first frame provided by a first application based on at least one data rate associated with at least one second frame to be transmitted on the first channel. The at least one second frame is provided by a second application.
