  • Publication number: 20050180917
Abstract: Neutron capture therapy (NCT) for example, Boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) requires the delivery of a neutron capture element such as Boron to a target site to be treated, followed by irradiation with neutrons. The invention provides new means for delivery of the neutron capture element in the form of insoluble inorganic nanoparticles having a particle size of about 10?10 m to about 10?6m. The neutron capture element can be in particulate form or in the form of glass or glass ceramic or as a polymerised inorganic matrix or as a sol-gel derived xerogel. The nanoparticles of the invention can further comprise a biocompatible outer layer which provides the function of stealth and assists in providing an appropriate clearance rate. In some embodiments, the nanoparticles comprise a core selected from, for example, mica, zeolites, TiO2 spheres, ZrO2 spheres or particles or organic polymer particles or spheres surrounded by a thin film of the neutron capture element.

  • Patent number: 6043296
Abstract: Glass polyalkenoate (glass ionomer) cements are used formed into dental crowns, despite their reputedly inadequate toughness, strength and wear-resistance early after forming for such an application, by heating the newly formed glass ionomer crown under a relative humidity of 100% in a bomb under silicone oil at 120-200.degree. C. for an hour.

  • Patent number: 5738678
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for delivering laser radiation to a substrate (20,120) involving a laser radiation source (1), delivery means (2) to transmit the laser radiation from the source, a delivery head (3) to direct the laser radiation from the delivery means onto the substrate. The delivery head has isolation means to isolate a selected target area from its surroundings by substantially preventing escape of laser radiation, and viewing means are provided to enable an operator to view the selected target area. The apparatus is specifically for application in curing restorative or prophylactic tooth coatings, such as vitreous dental compositions or sol gels.
