Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling a data processing system via a user interface on which user interface image objects can be displayed in a plurality of areas. The user interface image object call is associated with the execution of a defined function of the data processing system. The inventive method is further characterized in that the areas share part of the user interface. The areas are displayed in different sizes on the user interface depending on the choice made by the data processing system's user. When a certain area is activated, it is displayed in a preferred position of the user interface while the other areas are grouped around the activated area.
