  • Patent number: 8684983
Abstract: A convex shell for use in a base plate of an ostomy appliance includes an annular ring defined by an outer edge and an inner edge of defining a through-going hole. The annular ring has at least four transition sections extending transversely across the annular ring, dividing the annular ring into at least a first, second, third and fourth segment. By changing the characteristics of the convex shell in such sections, it is possible to control the bending of the shell. The shell also makes it possible to keep the area around the stoma more stable and resistant towards collapsing, while providing improved flexibility in the peristomal area for better comfort.

  • Patent number: 8647316
Abstract: An ostomy receiving bag includes front and rear walls sealed along a rim of the bag and a cover sheet attached to the bag. The bag has a lateral midline located between an upper end of the bag and a bottom end of the bag, with an inlet opening nearer to the upper end than to the bottom end of the bag. The cover sheet is attached to the upper end of the bag at the rim and covers at least part of one of the walls to form a pocket and an unattached edge between the upper end of the bag and the bottom end of the bag. A collecting volume of the bag is reduced by at least 25% when the bottom end of the bag is placed under the cover sheet to a position between the lateral midline and the upper end of the bag.

  • Publication number: 20110218507
Abstract: The present invention relates to a convex shell (1) for use in a base plate of an ostomy appliance. The convex shell comprises an annular ring (5) defined by an outer edge (6) and an inner edge (7) defining a through-going hole (8). The annular ring further comprises at least four transition sections (9,10,11,12) extending transversely across the annular ring, dividing the annular ring into at least a first, second, third and fourth segment (15,16,17,18). By changing the characteristics of the convex shell in such sections, it is possible to control the bending of the shell and, as will be described herein, it will be possible to keep the area around the stoma more stable and resistant towards collapsing, while providing improved flexibility in the peristomal area for better comfort.

  • Patent number: 8002759
Abstract: A disposable ostomy receiving bag having front and rear walls sealed together along the rim thereof and having a top end and a bottom end, and a cover of a sheet material covering one or both surfaces of the bag and only secured to the wall along the part of the rim being superimposed on the sealed rim of the front and rear walls. The bottom end can be folded to reduce the size of the bag, with the folded end discreetly hidden under the cover sheet. Should a larger collecting volume be needed, unfolding of the bag allows for an easy enlargement of the active volume of the bag simply by withdrawing the end of the bag from under the cover sheet.

  • Patent number: 7344521
Abstract: An ostomy appliance having a front wall and a rear wall of flexible material forming a bag, the rear wall having an inlet opening into the bag by which waste material can enter the bag, at least one of the walls having a vent through which gas may escape from the bag, a filter covering the vent and having an outlet opening, and a flap sealed at only one end thereof to the wall so as to be pivotally movable in the plane of the wall from a first position in which the flap is attached to the wall and covers the outlet opening, to a second position in which the flap is shifted to one side so as to be offset from the first position such that the filter outlet opening is at least partially open.

  • Patent number: 6902551
Abstract: An ostomy appliance including an adhesive barrier member having a hole for receiving a stoma, ureter, or catheter, an outer receiving member or bag releasably attached to the adhesive barrier member, and a disposable inner bag liner releasably attached to the adhesive barrier member. A single base coupling ring is attached to the barrier member and includes a first coupling area on an inner surface thereof, relative to the hole, and a second coupling on an outer surface thereof. The inner bag, which is coupled to the barrier member using an inner bag coupling ring, is coupled to the barrier member at the first coupling area and the outer receiving member is coupled to the barrier member at the second coupling area, such that both the inner bag and outer receiving member are mounted on the same single barrier member ring.

  • Publication number: 20040171999
Abstract: A disposable ostomy receiving bag comprising front and rear walls sealed together along the rim thereof and having a top end and a bottom end wherein the top end of the rear wall is provided with an inlet opening, wherein the receiving bag is provided with a further cover of a sheet material covering one or both surfaces thereof wherein the cover sheet at at least one of the surfaces is provided with a cut defining a part of the cover which only covers a part of the corresponding wall and is only secured to the wall along the part of the rim being superimposed on the sealed rim of the front and rear walls. This folding reduces the size of the bag and keeps the folded end discreetly hidden under the cover sheet and thus ensures discretion. Furthermore, it allows for an easy enlargement of the active volume of the bag simply by withdrawing the end of the bag from under the cover sheet, should a larger collecting volume suddenly be needed in situations where there is difficult or no access to a rest room.
