  • Patent number: 4956608
Abstract: In one aspect of the present invention a superconductive magnet for use in a magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy is provided. The magnet comprises a cylindrical coil form having a plurality of superconductive coils situated coaxially on the cylinder, spaced apart from one another. A plurality of pairs of thermal bridges each comprising a bar shaped section connecting a first and second end portion is also provided. The first end section has a greater surface are than the second end section. Each of the pairs of thermal bridges is situated between a respective pair of adjacent coils. The bar section of each of the thermal bridges extends axially between the adjacent coils. In each pair, the first end of one of the pair and the second end of the other of the pair are in thermal contact with one of the adjacent coils, the second end of one of the pair and the first end of the other of the pair are in thermal contact with the other coil of the adjacent pair.

  • Patent number: 4926646
Abstract: A precooler with a geometry that permits it to be mounted in a cryocooler interface and to use the same thermal connections at the heat stations is provided. The precooler has two stages each with its own heat exchanger, thermally isolated from the other. The latent heat of evaporation of cryogenic liquids is used to remove the sensible heat of superconductive magnet. The different stages can be cooled at a controlled rate resulting in reduced temperature gradients and therefore lower thermal stresses.

  • Patent number: 4926647
Abstract: A superconductive magnet coolable with a two stage cryocooler is provided. The superconductive magnet includes a cryostat containing a magnet winding, a thermal radiation shield surrounding the magnet winding and spaced away therefrom. The cryostat defines an aperture in which a cryocooler cold head interface receptacle is situated. The interface receptacle has a first and second heat station for connecting in a heat flow relationship with the first and second heat stations of the crycooler, respectively. A precooler has first and second stage heat exchangers connected in a heat flow relationship with the first and second heat stations of said interface, respectively. The interface has an inlet and outlet port for supplying and removing cryogens. Piping means fabricated from heat insulating material connect the first and second heat exchangers in a series flow relationship between the inlet and outlet ports.

  • Patent number: 4848311
Abstract: The temperature of localized high temperature regions in the side panels of a kitchen range is reduced by the use of thermal conduction breaks to interrupt thermal conduction paths and inhibit the transfer of heat from the oven through a supporting frame to the side panels. The thermal conduction breaks comprise a plurality of thin, vertically orientated elongated slits in upper portions of the front faces of the side panels. Heat transfer into the side panels due to radiation from the oven door is reduced by forming the oven door with a plurality of elongated slits disposed about a central portion of the door which closes the oven access opening to interrupt thermal conduction paths from the central portion to peripheral regions of the door adjacent to front faces of the side panels.
