  • Patent number: 7872851
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention relates to a variable capacitor that operates without moving mechanical parts. In this capacitor electrically conductive electrodes are separated by an enclosed chamber filled with an electrically conductive material. The electrically conductive material can freely vary its position within the chamber. The capacitance of the device will vary as position of the conductive material changes due to external mechanical motion (ex: rotation vibration, etc.) of the device. Other embodiments of this device are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7615845
Abstract: An apparatus that reduces parasitic capacitance in a MEMS device includes a dielectric layer on the surface of a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrate, a conductor embedded in the substrate and disposed between the dielectric layer and a buried oxide layer, and surface conductors on the dielectric layer and coupled to ends of the embedded conductor. A boundary region surrounds the embedded conductor and separates an inner region and an outer region of substrate, providing a p-n junction between the boundary region and the outer region of SOI substrate which is reverse biased to electrically isolate the inner region from the outer region of SOI substrate. An amplifier has an input connected to one end of the embedded conductor and an output connected to the inner region of the substrate. The amplifier senses a voltage at the input and produces a voltage that approximates the voltage at the output.

  • Publication number: 20090114005
Abstract: A tire system includes a plurality of piezoelectric devices mounted to the tire. The piezoelectric devices provide output signals in response to deformation of the tire. A processor has input terminals for receiving the signals from the piezoelectric devices, and the processor is programmed to determine tire parameters in response to the output signals from the piezoelectric devices. A power converter has input terminals for receiving the signals from the piezoelectric devices, and the power converter is connected to the processor to power the processor.
