  • Patent number: 10230631
Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting resource quotas for multicast group creation and membership in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, multicast group membership can present an issue in that inter-subnet partitions can, if left unchecked, runaway with multicast group creation within any given connected subnet. This can starve address map resources at router ports. A quota can be supplied that provides a maximum number of multicast groups any given inter-subnet partition is allowed to create within any given subnet.

  • Patent number: 10205646
Abstract: System and method for using multiple global identification subnet prefix values in a network switch environment in a high performance computing environment. A packet is received from a network fabric by a first Host Channel Adapter (HCA). The packet has a header portion including a destination subnet prefix identifying a destination subnet of the network fabric. The network HCA is allowed to receive the first packet from a port of the network HCA by selectively determining a logical state of a flag and, selectively in accordance with a predetermined logical state of the flag, ignoring the destination subnet prefix identifying the destination subnet of the network fabric.

  • Patent number: 10205603
Abstract: A system and method can support flooding mechanism using a packet process proxy in a middleware machine environment. The middleware machine environment can comprise a gateway instance that includes an external port for receiving data packets from an external network. The middleware machine environment also comprises one or more host servers, each of which is associated with one or more virtual machines. Furthermore, said host servers can provide virtual interfaces that belong to a virtual hub associated with the gateway instance. At least one said packet is a flooded packet that is specified with an unknown destination address when it is received at the external port. The gateway instance can send the flooded packet to a designated virtual interface on a host server, and a packet process proxy on the host server can forward the flooded packet to a virtual machine on another host server for processing this packet.

  • Patent number: 10198288
Abstract: A system and method support can subnet management in a cloud environment. During a virtual machine migration in a cloud environment, a subnet manager can become a bottleneck point that delays efficient service. A system and method can alleviate this bottleneck point by ensuring a virtual machine retains a plurality of addresses after migration. The system and method can further allow for each host node within the cloud environment to be associated with a local cache that virtual machines can utilize when re-establishing communication with a migrated virtual machine.

  • Publication number: 20190014077
Abstract: Systems and to provide combined IB and IP address and name resolution schemes via default IB multicast groups in a high performance computing environment, in accordance with an embodiment. A protocol would include options for providing application specific values using TLV (type-length-value) style generic representation. In this way it would be possible to issue requests that have an application specific argument (e.g. IP address) for which an IB address mapping is requested, and it would also be possible to have responses and announcement messages containing an arbitrary set of such TLVs.

  • Patent number: 10178027
Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting inter subnet partitions in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a fabric manager can define a range of P_Key values, among a plurality of P_Key values, as a inter subnet partition (ISP) P_Key range. The fabric manager can communicate this defined range of P_Key values to a number of subnets, via their subnet managers. The subnet managers in each subnet retain management over their subnets. As there is no central management that configures each side of inter subnet communication, subnet managers on within participating subnets can set up ISP membership, and then exchange information with the other subnet.

  • Patent number: 10178201
Abstract: Systems and methods for using a virtual machine fabric profiles to reduce virtual machine downtime during migration. An exemplary embodiment can provide a subnet manager (SM) and a virtual machine fabric profile that is accessible by the subnet manager, and where the virtual machine fabric profile includes a virtual host channel adapter (vHCA) configuration. The SM can receive a request to preregister the vHCA with a first physical host channel adapter (HCA) while the vHCA is already actively registered with a second physical HCA. The subnet manager can send the vHCA configuration to the first physical HCA for preregistration. After preregistration, the virtual link between the vHCA and a vSwitch of the first physical HCA can be left unestablished, until the SM determines that a virtual link between the vHCA and a vSwitch on the second physical HCA has been disconnected.

  • Publication number: 20190007345
Abstract: Systems and methods for using queue pair 1 (QP1) for receiving multicast based announcements in multiple partitions in a high performance computing. In accordance with an embodiment, by extending the scope of QP1 to also include receiving and sending multicast packets in any partition defined for the port, it is possible to implement generic MC based announcement and discovery without requiring the complexity of unique QPs for individual partitions, nor any update of QP configuration as a consequence of change of partition membership.

  • Publication number: 20190007346
Abstract: Systems and methods to use all incoming multicast (MC) packets as a basis for global unique identifier (GUID) to local identifier (LID) cache contents in a high performance computing environment, in accordance with an embodiment. Since all multicast packets have a Global Route Header (GRH), there is always both a source GID and a source LID defined for an incoming multicast packet. This implies that it is, in general, possible for an HCA implementation to gather information about GID and GUID to LID mappings for any sender node based on all incoming MC packets.

  • Patent number: 10171353
Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting dual-port virtual router in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a dual port router abstraction can provide a simple way for enabling subnet-to-subnet router functionality to be defined based on a switch hardware implementation. A virtual dual-port router can logically be connected outside a corresponding switch port. This virtual dual-port router can provide an InfiniBand specification compliant view to a standard management entity, such as a Subnet Manager. In accordance with an embodiment, a dual-ported router model implies that different subnets can be connected in a way where each subnet fully controls the forwarding of packets as well as address mappings in the ingress path to the subnet.

  • Patent number: 10148450
Abstract: A system and method can support a scalable packet forwarding mechanism in a middleware machine environment. The middleware machine environment can comprise one or more network switch instances, wherein each network switch instance is associated with one or more external ports that are adapted to receive data packets from an external network. Furthermore, the middleware machine environment can comprise a plurality of packet dispatching components, each of which is responsible for forwarding a data packet to a virtual machine on a host server that operates to process the data packet. Additionally, a link aggregation component can combine multiple external ports into a logical port, and wherein the bandwidth of the logical port is linearly scaled accordingly to a total number of the multiple external ports.

  • Patent number: 10148567
Abstract: Systems and methods for supporting SMA level handling to ensure subnet integrity in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, in order to ensure subnet integrity, a SMA at an entry port can operate such that all incoming packets are forwarded to an embedded processor (firmware) no matter where the packet is addressed. Each incoming packet can thus be filtered by an embedded processor. If the packet is valid (for example, includes a second receiver flag and is addressed appropriately), the packet can be allowed. However, if some portion of the validation fails, the packet can be dropped before being allowed entry into the subnet, thus ensuring the integrity of the subnet from erroneous and/or dangerous packets.
