Abstract: A system for decentralized control of fixtures in a medical care facility according to an embodiment of the present disclosure includes a first controller configured to physically and communicably couple with a first device and a network, the first device physically coupled to, or self-contained in a sterile environment within, a medical care facility and configured to affect or observe physical conditions of the facility; a second controller configured to physically and communicably couple with a second device and the network, the second device physically coupled to, or self-contained in a sterile environment within, the medical care facility and configured to affect or observe physical conditions of the facility; and a message broker communicably coupled to the network and to the first and second controllers, the message broker configured to receive messages sent by the first controller and the second controller and to broadcast messages to the network.
