  • Patent number: 10260778
Abstract: A plant for exploiting geothermal energy by circulating water or another fluid through a non-porous geological formation at a substantial depth below the earth surface, comprising multiple heat absorbing/production holes penetrating the said formation, with a total length of several kilometers and spaced more than 50 m apart. The production holes are connected to the surface by one single combined supply and return hole in which upward and downward flow is separated by a pipe comprising an insulating material and a seal. At the given positions of the common supply and return hole manifold zone designs connect the hole to the multiple production holes. The supply and return holes and production holes are closed circuits for transport of a fluid such as water through the said formation. A method for designing and establishing the plant is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8354625
Abstract: The present application relates to an apparatus for and a method of forge welding elongate articles (1, 2), such as tubes, together. In addition to electrode (12, 13) assemblies (9) for heating the article (1, 2) ends with high frequency resistive heating, the apparatus includes a coil (3) for induction heating the articles (1, 2) before or after welding, as well as means for cooling the welding seam.

  • Publication number: 20110168693
Abstract: A method of determining a welding process parameter for an object comprises subjecting a specimen removed from the object to a controlled specimen welding process, measuring a property of the specimen, and determining a welding process parameter associated with the object from the measured specimen property and the controlled specimen welding process. In one disclosed embodiment the method permits the determination of a welding process parameter of a full scale pipe by use of a specimen removed from the pipe, or a similar pipe.

  • Publication number: 20080237308
Abstract: A method of joining tubulars includes the step of joining the tubulars by forge welding. The tubular ends that are to be welded together may be shaped into a sloping configuration, such that when the tubular ends are heated during the forge welding process the heated tubular ends deform as a result of thermal expansion into a substantially longitudinally oriented cylindrical shape.

  • Publication number: 20050236372
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for forge welding tubulars such that formation of upsets in the welding zone is minimized which involves shaping the tubular ends that are to be welded together into an inwardly sloping configuration such that when the tubular ends are heated during the forge welding process the heated tubular ends deform as a result of thermal expansion into a substantially longitudinally oriented cylindrical shape.
