  • Patent number: 7533164
Abstract: The invention generally concerns the issue of providing connectivity between two different address realms, generally referred to as an inside realm and an outside realm, by establishing connections through an intermediate gateway. The gateway normally has a number of outside-realm gateway addresses for enabling representation of inside-realm nodes in the outside realm. In a first aspect, support for flexible outside-realm initiated connections is enabled by dynamically establishing new gateway connection states triggered, for each new connection, by a respective user-resource identifier query initiated from a corresponding outside node. In a second aspect of the invention, intelligent use of predetermined connection information in the process of setting up new gateway connection states makes it possible to significantly increase the number of connections that can be simultaneously supported by the gateway using a limited number of outside-realm addresses.

  • Patent number: 7200679
Abstract: Server-to-user delivery of a data stream associated with a service provided by the server is effectuated by selecting the server and, automatically and without manual intervention, providing in a communication path that is to be used for the delivery a proxy that performs a proxy operation on the data stream during the delivery. A proxy can be automatically installed in a communication path through a data network. In response to an installation request, a communication port for coupling to the communication path is automatically allocated and a proxy to support data flow through the communication port is automatically loaded. The proxy is operable for performing a proxy operation on the data stream. In maintaining proxies in a communication path used to deliver from a server to a user a data stream associated with a service provided by the server, it can be determined when a first proxy in the communication path is not performing its proxy function within the communication path.

  • Patent number: 7158788
Abstract: An auto-configuration arrangement enables a general-purpose mobile terminal or user equipment (UE) and an access network having specific native or standardized codecs and media formats to conform to one another and to thus optimize resource utilization in the access network. When the UE is attached to the access network, UE and user identifier information is signaled by the UE to a configuration node implemented in the access network. The configuration node acquires information details regarding the UE, and also relevant user subscription information, by retrieval from one or more access network registers. The configuration node then uses the detailed information together with access network specific information to decide what QoS definition and type of codec to select for use, and assembles the selected definitions and codecs, such as by retrieval from a repository.

  • Publication number: 20060259625
Abstract: An inside-realm node (A) attempting to connect to an outside-realm node (B) through an intermediate gateway (30) requests central configuration from a gateway resource manager (40). In response to the configuration request initiated from the inside-realm node, an outside-realm gateway address and an inside node port number are centrally allocated to the inside-realm node by resource allocation logic (42). Establishment of the connection is initiated at least partly based on the allocated address and port number by means of appropriate signaling with the gateway (30). The allocated address and port number are signaled back to the requesting inside-realm node in a configuration reply, allowing inside-realm node to configure its communication interface accordingly.

  • Publication number: 20020156841
Abstract: In requesting a server to provide a service to a user, a user application provides a service request that includes first information which directs the server to route to the user application a data stream associated with the service. The first information is transformed into second information which directs the server to route the data stream to a proxy which is installed in a communication path from the server to the user application and which is operable for performing a proxy operation on the data stream.
