  • Patent number: 7523989
Abstract: A corner unit for an article of sectional furniture. In an exemplary embodiment, the corner unit includes a frame having a plurality of frame members. The frame may include two internal frame members which are disposed substantially perpendicular to each other. The internal frame members provide rigidity and strength to the frame without requiring other angled cuts and connections for the frame. The frame may also include a cover assembly which provides a seat and at least one storage compartment. The frame members may be interconnected by interlocking protrusions and cutout portions, as well as by threaded fasteners received in push-in connector elements which are held in recesses within the frame members.

  • Patent number: 7044557
Abstract: The present invention provides fully upholstered, ready-to-assemble furniture which may be custom ordered by a purchaser, shipped directly to the home of the purchaser by a parcel delivery service, and then easily and quickly assembled by the purchaser. The ready-to-assemble article of furniture includes a frame having a composite frame member with a long dimension which is formed by a plurality of planar frame members assembled in an end-to-end and overlapping manner. The plurality of planar frame members are interconnected by interlocking protrusions and cutout portions, as well as by threaded fasteners received in push-in connector elements which are held in recesses within the frame members. The interlocking and threaded fastener connections allow a plurality of smaller frame members to form the composite frame member of the furniture frame, wherein the frame has the torsional and longitudinal stability of known furniture frames which include long, single boards.

  • Patent number: 6981747
Abstract: A fully upholstered, ready-to-assemble article of furniture which may be custom ordered by a consumer, packaged by the seller for shipment to the consumer by a parcel delivery service, and then assembled by the consumer from the packaged components. The article of furniture includes a frame of a plurality of interlocking, planar frame members which are secured together by fasteners received in push-in connector elements. Upholstery coverings, the design of which is custom selected by the consumer, are attached to the frame and secured to one another by hook and loop fasteners. Foam elements are received within a second plurality of upholstery covers which have large openings for receiving the foam elements to provide cushions for the article of furniture. The frame members, upholstery covers, and foam elements are packaged in first, second, and third containers, respectively, which are each light enough to be shipped for home delivery by a parcel delivery service.

  • Publication number: 20020103716
Abstract: A system and method for buying and selling fully upholstered furniture for direct delivery via a parcel delivery service such as, e.g., FEDERAL EXPRESS GROUND and UNITED PARCEL SERVICE. A computer system may be utilized having a remote computer to contact a server via a computer network such as the Internet. The server stores information relating to availability of furniture types and upholstery cover styles and communicates order information to an order receipt and fulfillment center for transmission via direct parcel delivery to the consumer. The furniture of the current invention comprises fully upholstered full-scale furniture (e.g., chairs, loveseats, sofas, sofa beds, and ottomans) including a frame having a plurality of interlocking planar frame members which are secured together by fasteners received in push in connector elements. Upholstery coverings are attached to the frame and secured to one another by, e.g., hook and loop fasteners or zippers and are separately returnable.

  • Patent number: 6267446
Abstract: A compressed upholstered furniture assembly kit, method of manufacture and assembled article of furniture. A consumer-assembled article of furniture having upholstered portions is provided in a manner which comports with the shipping, warehousing and display constraints of retailers and which accommodates a variety of consumer decorating tastes. The kit includes frame members and reduced volume padding. This padding, when exposed to air at atmospheric pressure expands to its natural size and shape. The padding may include a porous protective cover which is applied prior to reducing its volume, and may also include a bladder to which fluid is added to provide further expansion. The expanded padding provides cushions which are covered with separately available decorative, fitted covers to form upholstered pieces, which are then applied to the assembled frame to form a completed article of furniture.
