Patent number: 9065973Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, a method for displaying a videoconference includes receiving a first video feed. The first video feed includes a first plurality of video signals, each video signal from at least one source and originating from one or more sites. The method also includes assigning for a videoconference each video signal of the first plurality of video signals to a zone of a plurality of zones of a display window. Each zone of the plurality of zones is able to display one video signal at a time. The method further includes, for each zone of the plurality of zones of the display window to which more than one video signal has been assigned, switching the current video signal to be displayed in the zone to another video signal assigned to the zone based on a switching protocol.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2013Date of Patent: June 23, 2015Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Philip R. Graham, Chris A. Dunn, Blane A. Eisenberg

Patent number: 7729299Abstract: Elements in a video conferencing system may respond to error message(s) by aggregating any related error messages and responding based on a severity of the error indicated by the related error messages. A multipoint control unit (MCU) may identify an active stream from a first endpoint and forward the active stream to a second endpoint. The active stream may include a plurality of packets and transmit a video image by sending a frame followed by sub-frame modifications. The MCU may receive an error message from the second endpoint and determine the error's severity, which is related to an impact on an displayed image. Based on the severity, the MCU may identify and send a set of correction packets to the second endpoint. Also, a third endpoint may receive the active stream and respond to one or more error messages received from the second endpoint.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2007Date of Patent: June 1, 2010Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Blane A. Patent number: 7649898Abstract: Converting a media stream includes communicating a call for a first system according to a first protocol. A media stream is retrieved from a second system, where the media stream communicated according to a second protocol distinguishable from the first protocol. The media stream is converted from the second protocol to the first protocol, and is associated with the call. The media stream is transmitted to the first system according to the first protocol.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2003Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: William B. May, Jr., David J. Mackie, Blane A. Eisenberg, Philip R. Graham

Patent number: 7649938Abstract: An apparatus, a method, and a software product to control a plurality of surveillance video camera/encoder combinations. The method includes receiving a plurality of encoded video streams from a respective surveillance camera/encoder combination, and accepting a measure of the level of activity for each encoded video stream. Each measure is obtained from the output of the camera of the corresponding camera/encoder combination. The method further includes assigning output bit rates for each encoded stream according to the accepted level of activity such that a maximum overall bit rate is not exceeded. One version is for controlling camera/encoder combinations that accept remote bit rate control, and a second is for controlling camera/encoder combinations that send at a pre-set bit rate. One version includes a network connection between the camera/encoder combinations, and the method or apparatus for central control.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2004Date of Patent: January 19, 2010Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Wen-hsiung Chen, Fang Wu, Philip R. Graham, Gregory D. Pelton, Blane A. Eisenberg

Publication number: 20060271987Abstract: A system and method for establishing communication between a remote Internet resource and a media device is provided. The connection is established through a cable card providing the connection between the remote Internet resource and the media device. The cable card comprises a cable card socket that has an interface to receive the encoded information over the IP connection, decrypt it and send it to the media device, through a cable card connector. The use of the cable card reduces cost, power supply and the space occupied. It also ensures that an improved quality of communication is achieved at an affordable cost.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 26, 2005Publication date: November 30, 2006Applicant: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Blane Eisenberg, William May,
