A control system is configured to receive the images from the camera module, monitor the cooking appliance or a foodstuff within the cooking chamber for a presence of a condition, and, if the presence of the condition is detected, generate a signal to modify a frame rate of the camera module.

The oven further includes an infrared (IR) sensor that is configured to measure radiation intensity of the oven cavity and/or the electrical heating element, and a controller that is configured to compare a measured radiation intensity of the oven cavity and/or the electrical heating element to an expected radiation intensity.
