  • Patent number: 7373165
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for performing a protocol that optimizes a transmission power in a network. The apparatus and the method perform a protocol that optimizes the transmission power in the network for point-to-multipoint communication (1:N). The apparatus includes a communication unit for sending and receiving a data packet through the air, and a control unit that outputs a control signal for controlling the transmission power according to connection information of the data packet received through the communication unit. The connection information includes a reception signal strength and/or link quality information. Since the transmission power is adjustable, communication is carried out among nodes of the network with an adequately minimum power consumption and a proper communication quality.

  • Patent number: 7359950
Abstract: A method for managing a network in which Bluetooth equipped devices are linked together when the network master cannot serve as a master. During normal operation, the network master updates the backup master rank information when the network master disappears, in a predetermined cycle, according to link information, such as received signal strength indication (RSSI) or link quality, transmitted from the Bluetooth equipped devices serving as a slave. When power of the network master is exhausted, or when the network master leaves the network operating region, a new master is selected from the remaining slaves according to the backup master rank information, thereby reconfiguring a network around the new network master. The method enables proper designation of a new master when a preexisting network master leaves the network operating region, thereby increasing a probability of holding connection throughout the network.

  • Publication number: 20070133084
Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for all-optically controlling both a gain and a gain flattening. The apparatus includes: a first amplifier automatically controlling a gain of the apparatus through a feedback loop while amplifying a received optical signal; a fixed gain flattening unit receiving the amplified optical signal from the first amplifier and compensating for the gain according to a wavelength of the received optical signal; and a second amplifier automatically controlling the gain through a feedback loop while amplifying the optical signal input from the fixed gain flattening unit. Accordingly, even if the number of channels of an input WDM optical signal varies, both of a gain and a gain flattening can be all-optically controlled.

  • Publication number: 20060239316
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for controlling temperature of an optical module using an uncooled laser diode. A first setup unit for establishing low-temperature setup voltage and a second setup unit for establishing high-temperature setup voltage determine first and second threshold voltages suitable for low-temperature and high-temperature setup voltages, respectively. First and second comparators compare the low-temperature and high-temperature setup voltages with sensor voltage received from a sensor voltage entry unit, respectively. The output signals of the comparators are applied to a logic circuit, such that the logic circuit generates on/off signals according to the result of the comparison. The logic circuit generates a high-level signal only when the sensor voltage escaped from a predetermined voltage range, and thus operates the temperature control circuit.

  • Patent number: 6879570
Abstract: A method for operating a personal ad-hoc network (PAN) among a plurality of Bluetooth devices is provided. The method for operating a PAN among a plurality of Bluetooth devices includes the steps of: (a) performing an inquiry in a Bluetooth device, checking whether other Bluetooth devices are present in the communicable range of the Bluetooth device, and determining the presence of a response to the inquiry; (b) as the PAN's master, storing PAN's slave information and sending it to other slaves when a request for establishment of a connection occurs after repeating inquiry and page scans if there is no response to the inquiry in step (a); and (c) establishing a connection and then changing into a slave role if there is a response to the inquiry in step (b) from a network master, and then receiving PAN information from the network master.
