  • Patent number: 6176259
Abstract: Apparatus is disclosed for venting a fuel tank including a canister containing an absorbent for fuel fumes, a sensor for detecting the filling of the fuel tank and emitting a signal based thereon, a first connection line for connecting the canister with the fuel tank and having a sufficient size to permit the free flow of gases from the fuel tank during filling of the fuel tank, the first connection line including a first valve operable between an open position and a closed position, the first valve normally being in the closed position and being actuatable into the open position by the signal thereby permitting the free flow of gas from the fuel tank through the first connection line during filling, a second connection line for connecting the canister with the fuel tank and connected to the first connection line between the first valve and the canister, the second connection line including a second valve including at least one restrictor for substantially limiting the flow of gases therethrough as compared t

  • Patent number: 6041644
Abstract: A device for detection of a defined relative position of a first, movable means, relatively a second, fixed means and including a sensor (1) arranged at least at one of the first and second means which sensor is provided with a pressure sensing means (CC.sub.M). The sensor (1) gives rise to an electric detector signal, which indicates whether the defined relative position has been taken. The sensor (1) is also provided with a closed cavity (13) which communicates with a pressure sensing means (C.sub.M) and with means (14/36/45) to momentarily limit the volume of the cavity and thereby create a pressure pulse adapted to activate the pressure sensing means of the sensor. The detector device includes means to convert the pressure pulse to a detection signal to detect the defined relative position.

  • Patent number: 5632242
Abstract: In a fuel system for motor vehicles, comprising a fuel tank, a fuel filler pipe with an opening into the tank, a first gas conduit, one end of which is positioned within the tank and whose opening determines the highest fuel level in the tank when filling the tank, and a second gas conduit which extends from an expansion space in the tank above said highest fuel level to a filter device; the improvement wherein the second gas conduit (4) includes a restriction device (9) which is so arranged that the flow resistance of the gas flow in the direction from the tank (1) to the filter device (8) is greater than in the opposite direction, and a pressure sensor (11) arranged to detect the pressure in the gas volume above the surface (N) of the fuel.

  • Patent number: 5305903
Abstract: The invention concerns a device in fuel tanks, preferably for vehicles, said tanks being provided with a mouth socket to which a filler tube is connected so as to have its one end portion projecting into the tank. Between the mouth socket and the filler tube a seal is provided, the latter being formed with a portion grippingly enclosing the mouth edge of the socket and defining, together with the filler tube, an intermediate space allowing oscillation of the filler tube relatively to the socket. A washer is pressed against the filler tube and is formed with a bent-over portion grippingly engaging said portion of the seal. A reinforcement sleeve is positioned inside the filler tube and presses against the inner face of the filler tube. A clamp-joint sleeve is fitted around the mouth socket, enclosing portion of the seal and the washer.

  • Patent number: 5257608
Abstract: The invention relates to a device in a fuel system for an internal combustion engine (1) with a fuel injection device. The fuel system comprises a fuel tank (2), a feeder line (3) for feeding fuel from the fuel tank (2) to the fuel injection device (4, 6, 7), return line (5) for returning excess fuel from the fuel injection device to the fuel tank. According to the invention, a coupling (11) is arranged in the feeder line (3) in the vicinity of its end in the fuel tank (2). The coupling (11) has two open connections for the feeder line (3) with free through-flow for the fuel and a pressure medium connection which is closed during normal operation, through which connection pressure medium can be introduced to force the fuel from the fuel system. A check valve is arranged in the feeder line (3) between the coupling (11) and the end of the feeder line (3) in the fuel tank (2), said check valve permitting flow in the feeder line (3) only in the direction from the fuel tank (2).

  • Patent number: 5115830
Abstract: Valve device, comprising a valve housing (1) with an inlet (3) and an outlet (5), a valve seat (13) and a valve closing member (8) movable in the housing between open and closed positions and having a sealing surface, which in the closed position of the valve closing member (8) is in contact with the valve seat to prevent liquid from flowing through the outlet. The valve closing member interacts with structure (15, 17) which, responsive to tilting of the valve housing relative to a predetermined position, moves the valve closing member to its closed position. The valve closing member being fixed to a float (11), which, as the liquid level rises in the housing (1) in its predetermined position, lifts the valve closing member towards its closed position, the weight of the structure (15, 17) being adapted to the lifting force of the float, so that the valve body, when the housing is filled with liquid and has been turned 180.degree. from the predetermined position, is held in its closed position.

  • Patent number: 4923220
Abstract: The disclosures relates to a tube coupling (10) for a tube (11) having a body (12) with open ended throughway (13) to receive the tube and a collet (21) in the open end of the throughway having resilient arms (23) engaging a tapered cam surface (20) in the body to clamp the ends of the arms against a tube extending through the collet into the body to lock a tube in the body. The body has a cylindrical outer surface and a cylindrical cover (30) encircles and is slidable along the body. One end of the cover has an end wall (32) extending across the end of the body opposite the open end of the throughway with an aperture (33) through which the tube extends. The other end of the cover has an internal annular projection (35) which snaps over the end of the cylindrical body to retain the cover on the body while permitting the cover to slide linearly along the body.

  • Patent number: 4699003
Abstract: A float-type fuel meter for vehicles. The float regulates in a known manner the position of a movable contact to a resistor. According to the invention, the resistance is a potentiometric resistor, the movable contact being connected, via a disconnectible series resistance, to an electric measuring device, preferably, a moving coil indicator. An overvoltage protector for the device and a capacitor connected in parallel therewith are arranged so that the protector is energized while the capacitor is de-energized when the series resistance is shunted off.
