Upon identification, the compound was named as 4-amino-5-hydroxypentanoic acid, being a newly discovered natural compound found in tender shoots of Camellia ptilophylla, and also identified as a novel amino acid. This compound was not detected in other tea varieties, but it was consistently present in all populations of Camellia ptilophylla.
