  • Patent number: 7789866
Abstract: An ostomy bag with a filter assembly having a gas filter and a pre-filter for preventing or delaying solid/semisolid matter and liquid from reaching the gas filter. The pre-filter is at least substantially flat and comprises a number of constrictions, such as ribs extending along and between two inner surface parts of the channel. These constrictions/ribs form narrower and wider passages where the gas may more quickly pass a narrow passage and where the wider passages tend to receive and hold the liquid, solid matter and semisolid matter. The constrictions may be provided as a single, monolithic element, such as an extruded element.

  • Patent number: 7367965
Abstract: An ostomy appliance with a front wall and a rear wall of flexible material forming a bag, the rear wall having an opening into the bag by which waste material can enter the bag. The bag has two or more vents through which gas may escape from the bag and a filter device covering each vent. Each filter device has gas inlet and outlet openings in communication with a respective filter body so that in use gas flows through the filter device from the inlet opening through the filter body to the outlet opening. The inlet openings communicate with the inner space of the bag and are located near the border of the bag, being spaced at an angle of at least 45 degrees along radii of a circle of reference having a perimeter concentric with the waste opening of the bag.

  • Patent number: 7223260
Abstract: The collecting bag has a bag member formed by a first and a second film blank, and a discharge portion that is foldable and unfoldable to bring the discharge portion from an open unfolded condition to a closed folded condition and vice versa. A first plate member is positioned on the first film blank and a second plate member is positioned on an extension of the second film blank Each plate member is formed from a relatively stiff material, and the distance between the distal edge of the first plate member and the proximal edge of the second plate member is smaller than the thickness of the first plate member. When folding the discharge portion, the distal edge of the first plate member acts as a pivot, and a stretching effect is created on the second film blank to effectively seal the discharge opening without deformation of the plate members.

  • Patent number: 6858023
Abstract: In a reusable collecting bag such as a stoma bag (1) having a narrowed discharge portion (8) including a slit-like discharge opening in the vicinity of its distal end the discharge portion (8) is brought from an open position for emptying the bag through the discharge opening (9) and a closed position of use by folding and unfolding the discharge portion (8) about at least one folding line (24) transverse to the longitudinal direction of the discharge portion (8). To avoid or reduce faecal contamination of the discharge portion (8) in connection with emptying of the bag a series (16, 18) of sequentially peelable stacked protective members (17, 19) is applied to each of two surface sections of the discharge portion (8) adjacent the discharge opening (9).

  • Patent number: 4657055
Abstract: Pressurized cylinders are rapidly filled with acetylene gas and solvent in a staged process that is closely monitored by a control unit to assure that filling progresses with all critical variables maintained within safe bounds. An operator performs certain preliminary cylinder hookup tasks as monitored and prompted by the control unit. The control unit conducts the actual filling of the cylinder, carrying out this procedure in distinct filling stages with alternate injections of solvent and gas into the cylinder. The improved system enhances the safety and efficiency with which acetylene cylinders are filled.

  • Patent number: 4556091
Abstract: Lower portions of the outer wall of a pressurized gas cylinder are cooled during filling of the cylinder with a pressurized gas such as acetylene. A basket-like frame is installed atop the cylinder to support an annular manifold such that the manifold encircles the cylinder at a location spaced downwardly from the top of the cylinder. The manifold defines a plurality of fluid discharge openings which direct multiple flows of coolant toward the outer walls of the cylinder, whereby lower portions of the outer wall of the cylinder are bathed with a flowing curtain of coolant. The frame includes a C-shaped member which rests on the upper shoulders of the cylinder, and struts which depend from the C-shaped member to support the manifold.

  • Patent number: 4521676
Abstract: A protective cap for a pressurized gas cylinder includes a ferro-magnetic body having an outer surface which is provided with a linear array of holes arranged to encode cylinder data in binary form. The presence or absence of a hole in each of a plurality of linearly spaced positions indicates one of two logic states. While the presence of a hole in a given position indicates one logic state, the absence of a hole at that position indicates the opposite state. Data is encoded in a repetitive but inverse form in two linear side-by-side rows. The data is read by a dual-head inductive transducer which is moved along the linear array such that each of the heads senses the presence or absence of holes in separate ones of the side-by-side rows to generate two separate trains of electrical pulses which are indicative of the encoded data, with one of the trains of pulses being substantially inverse in form from the other of the trains of pulses.
