  • Patent number: 4330891
Abstract: In an element for implantation in body tissue, particularly bone tissue, consisting of a biologically flawless material with a micro-pitted surface, the pores in the surface have a diameter many times smaller than has been previously known in order to permit the occurrence of such a tight and extensive boundary zone around the implanted element that this achieves reinforced and inextricable anchoring in the tissue. The pore diameter may be as little as about 10 nm and as large as a few multiples of the normal diameter of the cells in the tissue, preferably no larger than the cell diameter, i.e. about 1000 nm. Optimal results are obtained with pore diameters equal to or smaller than about 300 nm and a finely pored rutile layer has been found to give a particularly strong and durable joint with the growing tissue. Preferably at least one deposit of an agent facilitating and/or accelerating the growing-together process is arranged on or in the element.

  • Patent number: 4261350
Abstract: A support member for a prosthesis comprises a tubular member adapted to be secured to a prepared bone by a cement or by screw fastener. The face of the prosthesis in contact with the bone is provided with channels, typically of trapezoidal section to ensure a good supply of blood to the bone tissue and to facilitate blood vessel and bone tissue growth. A device to expand such a support member is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4065817
Abstract: A bone prosthesis and the method of securing it in place, in which the prosthesis is formed as a tubular support member having perforations therein, the end of the bone is bored, the tubular support member is introduced into the bore and cement is then introduced into the interior of the tubular support and passes out through the perforations to provide the midterm anchor on the walls of the bone. The cement will damage the tissue where it contacts the tissue, but the remainder of the tissue of the bore is undamaged and this grows inwardly to form a long term anchor between the tubular support and the bone. A prosthesis body is located and secured in place e.g. mechanically or by cement, in the tubular support member.

  • Patent number: 3996359
Abstract: A process for the resolution of stereoisomeric mixtures of certain steroids obtained by synthesis into its components, comprising subjecting the stereoisomeric mixture to gel filtration, the components in view of different retention volumes being separated and being separately recoverable; and stereoisomeric components A and B thereby obtained, pharmaceutical compositions thereof; and method of treating inflammation therewith.

  • Patent number: 3983233
Abstract: Novel steroids having the general formula: ##SPC1##Wherein X and Y are independently selected from hydrogen and fluorine, X being selected from hydrogen and fluorine when Y is hydrogen and X being fluorine when Y is fluorine, Z is selected from hydroxyl and esterified hydroxyl preferably containing a maximum of 12 carbon atoms, if any, in the esterifying group, R is selected from straight and branched hydrocarbon chains having 2-10 carbon atoms; processes for the preparation of said steroids; compositions containing said steroids; and method of treating inflammation therewith. The steroids are physiologically active compounds possessing anti-inflammatory activity. This application claims pharmaceutical compositions and method of treating employing the novel steroid steroisomeric mixtures.
