  • Patent number: 9016531
Abstract: A retractor carrying device for personal use has multiple components that allow for easy storage, deployment, and detachment of small items carried inside the device. In one embodiment, the device includes a carrying case having an interior cavity, a retractor assembly having an interior portion and an exterior portion joined to the carrying case, and an attachment assembly connected to the exterior portion so that the device may be connected to a user's belt or strap. A retractable tensile member is rotatably disposed within the interior portion and is moveable between a fully retracted position and an extended position. The device also includes an end fitting connected to the retractable tensile member that is adapted to releasably attach the small portable items. When the retractable tensile member is in the fully retracted position, the end fitting is configured to nest in a recess formed in the interior portion.

  • Patent number: 8979144
Abstract: A latch and catch assembly is provided to secure two or more components together in a locked or closed position. In one embodiment, the assembly includes a catch and a tensile member connected to a latch, wherein the assembly is moveable between an open position and a closed position. The catch includes a lip configured to engage a recess formed in the latch when the assembly is in the closed configuration. In a further embodiment, the latch includes a pull-tab extending from the latch, wherein the pull-tab is configured to enable the user to move the assembly between the open position and the closed position. In another embodiment, the catch has a wider proximal portion which tapers to a narrower distal portion, such that the catch has a ā€œVā€-shaped planform.

  • Patent number: 8746519
Abstract: A releasable attachment apparatus has multiple components that allow for easy storage, deployment and detachment of small portable items carried on the apparatus. In one embodiment, the apparatus has a retractable unit having a housing inside of which are a reel, a spring coil biasing rotation of the reel, and a tensile member carried on the reel. The housing has a female opening that fittingly receives a connector so that there is minimal swivel action in the connector and thus minimal strain on the tensile member when the tensile member is fully retracted in drawing the connector to a stored configuration with the retractable unit. The apparatus also includes a fastener that is adapted to carry the small portable items and is removably attached to the connector. The apparatus also includes a locking switch which is movable between a neutral position that allows rotation of the reel and a locking position which locks the reel against rotation.

  • Publication number: 20070151173
Abstract: A seismically isolated structure and a method of constructing same provide a rigid diaphragm, a plurality of footings each positioned at least partially under the rigid diaphragm, and a plurality of base isolation devices each positioned between a footing and the rigid diaphragm, wherein the rigid diaphragm was constructed in situ above the footings generally below its final elevation. A barrier is positioned between the rigid diaphragm and at least the footings to prevent bonding between the rigid diaphragm and the footings. The barrier, which may be structural or chemical or a combination thereof, may also span between the footings if appropriate.
