  • Patent number: 9266649
Abstract: The present invention includes a lockable safety container that incorporates a pop-up lid to enable person having disabilities to open the safety container, while the safety container retains childproofing features. The childproofing features include a locking pin, a locking tab, and a slide detent. The locking pin is internally biased by a spring that urges the pin to slide in a slideway in the lid of the container. The locking pin may be locked into a closed position by positioning the locking tab into a lock-out position. In the lock-out position, the locking tab cannot slide within a mating slot in the lid and thus the locking pin cannot slide in the slideway in the lid. The childproofing features of the safety container may require the user to engage in at two least distinct hand motions in order to open the container.

  • Patent number: 6367639
Abstract: A safety container incorporates a slidable locking pin with an integral but separately lockable locking tab. The locking pin is internally biased by an integral S-spring which, in cooperation with the lid on the container, urges the pin to slide in a slideway in the lid of the container. The locking pin may be locked into a closed position, however, by rotation of the locking tab into a flexed position. In this position, the locking tab cannot slide within a mating slot in the hinge lid and thus the locking pin cannot slide in the slideway in the lid. Alternatively, the locking tab may be rotated into a non-flexed position in which the locking tab can be urged to penetrate the mating slot in the lid and allow the locking pin to slide in the slideway in the lid. By use of the locking pin, the safety container can be set to require the user to engage in at least distinct hand motions in order to open the container.

  • Patent number: 5887736
Abstract: A container having a hinged stopper with a safety latch to deter unauthorized persons from opening the container. The underside of the stopper is provided with a channel which carries a slide pin movable to first and second positions: a first latching position in which an enlargement at the end of the slide pin is seated in a recess in the lip of the container and a second unlatched position in which the enlargement is freed from the recess enabling the stopper to be opened. The slide pin is biased to the latched position, and the slide pin should be pushed against the bias to unlatch the stopper, and while maintaining this force, the stopper must be simultaneously opened. The requirement of two simultaneous pushing motions is beyond the capability of most young children.

  • Patent number: 4512484
Abstract: A locking screw cap for sealing a wide variety of containers, such as medicine bottles, bottles containing hazardous liquids, and other containers where it is desired to prevent access by young children, includes a locking pin mounted in a bracket on the perimeter of the cap. The locking pin may be depressed to engage one or more lugs formed adjacent the opening in the container to prevent rotation of the cap. A flange formed on the top of the locking pin and a tang formed in the middle of the locking pin prevent removal of the pin from the bracket. The user may raise the pin by inserting a fingernail in a slot formed in the tang to urge the pin upward.

  • Patent number: 4203532
Abstract: An improved container and safety stopper combination of the type which includes a container, a stopper hingedly connected to the lip of the container, the pin slidably mounted in a slide channel formed in the stopper and having an enlarged outer portion adapted to engage a recess in the lip of the container to lock the stopper in its closed position. Means are provided to prevent the pin from sliding outwardly or inwardly unless manually pulled or pushed respectively. When the stopper is closed and the pin is fully inserted, the upper side of the enlarged outer portion of the pin is spaced from the stopper the minimum distance sufficient to allow the fingernail of an adult user to fit within a laterally extending groove in the enlarged outer portion so that the pin can be pulled outwardly.
