  • Patent number: 7090220
Abstract: A cartridge type bearing seal facilitates the prevention of contaminant ingress between a spindle rotor and a spindle housing, particularly in situations where a circumferentially uniform fluid pressure is generated within the annular volume of the spindle housing. The cartridge includes ringlike rotor and stator sections which can be compressed axially to snap fit together, in a manner which enables relative rotation about a common axis. When interconnected, the sections define an inside surface and an outside surface, and a fluid flow path which extends radially outwardly therebetween, and which traverses a collar and tangs construction which enables the snap fit connection. The tangs are arcuate in shape and spaced equidistantly around the axis. The total arcuate space occupied by the tangs is relatively small, compared to the total arcuate space residing between the tangs, and bounded by the two sections adjacent the collar.

  • Patent number: 5348512
Abstract: A constant velocity universal joint including a housing having a plurality of longitudinally extending channels has an inner rotatable member having a plurality of radially disposed trunnions, each of which extends into a respective one of the channels. A ball and socket joint, including a ball member and a socket member, is disposed intermediate each trunnion and the housing. A bearing is located between each trunnion and the respective ball member to permit relatively frictionless axial movement between the trunnion and the respective ball member. The bearing includes a generally rectangularly shaped cage retaining a plurality of needle rollers on at least two of the sides of the cage. The central longitudinal axes of the needle rollers are disposed normally to the direction of axial movement of the trunnion with respect to the respective ball member.

  • Patent number: 5293688
Abstract: The present invention comprises a spacer, especially a spacer for use with a thrust roller bearing assembly. An internal radial lip projecting into the central aperture of the spacer provides for frictional retention on a shaft passing therethrough. Where the thrust bearing and spacer combination is to be installed in a bore, one or more external radial lips may be included to frictionally retain the spacer within the bore. The spacer element is adapted for coupling to one of the bearing elements. In one embodiment, the bearing and spacer may be bonded together. In another embodiment, the spacer and bearing are joined by mutually engageable circumferential locking surfaces. The spacer is selected from a plurality of spacers of differing axial dimension, each spacer being color coded according to its axial dimension.

  • Patent number: 5230275
Abstract: An eccentric anti-friction drive for fluid power apparatus is disclosed wherein the eccentric element comprises a tubular cup or sleeve made by deep drawing a hardenable steel material. The eccentric element comprises two cylindrical peripheries disposed eccentrically with respect to one another. One of the cylindrical peripheries is fitted to the rotating member of a prime mover and the other cylindrical periphery comprises the inner or outer race of an anti-friction bearing of the anti-friction drive.

  • Patent number: 5154517
Abstract: An anti-friction bearing assembly having an integrally formed oil feed nozzle especially for use in automotive manual transmissions is disclosed. The oil feed nozzle may be formed as part of the outer race of a shell bearing or as part of the cage of a shell bearing. The nozzle directs oil from a reservoir into the axial bore of a shaft for supplying lubricant to cross bores in the shaft. Vanes may be provided on the nozzle formed integrally with the cage so that when the cage rotates the vanes pump the oil through the nozzle and the shaft bore.

  • Patent number: 5125487
Abstract: A method of manufactore of, and apparatus for, a torque converter assembly having an improved reactor assembly. A torque converter is disclosed having a stator which has improved and simplified casting and machining requirements. A stator hub is provided having a cylindrical bore substantially coaxial with the axis of the transmission shaft to which the torque converter is mounted. An overrunning clutch and thrust bearing cartridge assembly is provided to be fitted into the stator hub bore. The overrunning clutch provides improved lubrication on both sides of the clutch engaging element surfaces, either rollers or sprags, between the inner and outer rings which form the clutch races. Wear surfaces within the clutch assembly are stamped steel instead of aluminum. Clutch load is increased by increasing the roller or sprag dimensions in the direction of the stator axis, while maintaining the same stator hub width. Thrust bearings are mounted to the outside of the overrunning clutch.

  • Patent number: 5053656
Abstract: A thin, metallic sensor ring for rotational sensing systems wherein protrusions formed on the periphery of the ring are constructed so as to interrupt an electromagnetic flux emitted by a sensing device mounted in fixed relation to the ring, whereby rotation of the ring may be detected. The protrusions are formed without removing any metal from the ring, preferably by a stamping or drawing operation. Slits may be provided in the ring to facilitate the formation of the protrusions. The ring may be partially encapsulated in a plastic mounting adapter to facilitate mounting thereof on a rotating shaft or hub.

  • Patent number: 4960193
Abstract: A drive decoupling apparatus for a drive mechanism including a drive shaft, clutch release mechanism, driven mechanism, and diaphragm spring associated with the driven mechanism, premanufactured in a single unit, sub-assembly form such as a cartridge. The design facilitates assembly of the mechanism in a sealed cartridge form in the relatively clean surroundings of a bearing assembly plant, such that the sealed cartridge sub-assembly may be easily installed at an automobile assembly factory at the time of installation of the other drive train components.

  • Patent number: 4840600
Abstract: A linear needle roller bearing has a linear needle bearing block having two generally rectangular ends defining an outer peripheral bearing surface therebetween. The outer peripheral bearing surface extends perpendicular to the ends of the bearing block and forms a plurality of linear bearing surfaces. A plurality of needle rollers are disposed on the outer peripheral bearing surfaces and a retaining member is fixed to each end of the block. The needle rollers are standard needle rollers having the shape of right cylinders. Each retaining member has a lip which extends over one end of each of the plurality of needle rollers, thereby retaining the needle rollers on the block.
