  • Patent number: 10221637
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a dissolvable article comprises forming a liquid-solid mixture comprising secondary particles homogeneously dispersed in a molten metallic matrix material; disposing the liquid-solid mixture in a mold; agitating the liquid-solid mixture in the mold; and molding the liquid-solid mixture under agitation to form a dissolvable article, wherein the secondary particles and the metallic matrix material form a plurality of micro- or nano-sized galvanic cells in the dissolvable article.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 11, 2015
Date of Patent: March 5, 2019
Assignee: BAKER HUGHES, A GE COMPANY, LLC
Inventors: Zhiyue Xu, Bobby Salinas, Zhihui Zhang
  • Patent number: 9682425
Abstract: A metallic powder is disclosed. The metallic powder includes a plurality of metallic powder particles. Each powder particle includes a particle core. The particle core includes a core material comprising Mg, Al, Zn or Mn, or a combination thereof, having a melting temperature (TP). Each powder particle also includes a metallic coating layer disposed on the particle core. The metallic coating layer includes a metallic coating material having a melting temperature (TC). The powder particles are configured for solid-state sintering to one another at a predetermined sintering temperature (TS), and TS is less than TP and TC.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 9079246
Abstract: A method of making a powder metal compact is disclosed. The method includes forming a coated metallic powder comprising a plurality of coated metallic powder particles having particle cores with nanoscale metallic coating layers disposed thereon, wherein the metallic coating layers have a chemical composition and the particle cores have a chemical composition that is different than the chemical composition of the metallic coating layers. The method also includes applying a predetermined temperature and a predetermined pressure to the coated powder particles sufficient to form a powder metal compact by solid-phase sintering of the nanoscale metallic coating layers of the plurality of coated powder particles to form a substantially-continuous, cellular nanomatrix of a nanomatrix material, a plurality of dispersed particles dispersed within the cellular nanomatrix and a solid-state bond layer extending throughout the cellular nanomatrix.
