  • Publication number: 20150315661
Abstract: We disclose a method of detecting bladder cancer in a patient, comprising isolating bladder cells from the patient's urine; hybridizing the bladder cells with a labelled DNA probe, wherein the probe recognizes at least a portion of the aurora kinase A gene, to yield a sample of bladder cells hybridized with the labeled DNA probe: and counting the number of bladder cells in the sample, the number of copies of the aurora kinase A gene in each bladder cell in the sample, and the number of bladder cells in the sample having at least a first threshold number of copies of the aurora kinase A gene.
    Type: Application
    Filed: July 21, 2015
    Publication date: November 5, 2015
Applicant: Board of Regents, The University of Texas System
Inventors: H. Barton Grossman, Bogdan Czerniak, Sen Subrata
  • Publication number: 20150292030
Abstract: The present application discloses a method of diagnostic testing of primary tumors, circulating tumor cells, serum, and urine to detect high-risk bladder cancers. These results have immediate implications for prognostication and the clinical management of muscle-invasive bladder cancer.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 27, 2013
    Publication date: October 15, 2015

  • Patent number: 8609343
Abstract: Provided are methods for detecting bladder cancer in a subject. In some aspects, methylation of one or more of MYO3A, CA10, NKX6-2, SOX11, DBC1, NPTX2, and/or A2BP1 in DNA sediment from a urine sample may be evaluated to detect the presence or absence of a bladder cancer in a human patient.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 12, 2012
Date of Patent: December 17, 2013
Assignee: Board of Regents, The University of Texas System
Inventors: Woonbok Chung, Bogdan A. Czerniak, Jean-Pierre Issa

  • Publication number: 20030165895
Abstract: Disclosed are methods, compositions and apparatus useful in the detection, monitoring and treatment of the progression of neoplasia and preneoplastic conditions with special emphasis on the chromosomal changes related to the development and progression of urothelial neoplasia. Chromosomal changes, including LOH, at the disclosed loci demonstrate a statistically significant relation to the progression of disease state in urothelial neoplasia.
