    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for calculating and displaying the cumulated degradation of taste in coffee or tea based on monitored temperature history are disclosed. The degradation of taste display apparatus includes an immersible or wall-mounted temperature sensor and a means for calculating TBDS (total burn damage score) based on formulae configured for predicting changes in flavor substances. Based on the same method of calculating taste loss during a thermal exposure, a heating method and improved apparatus for heating coffee or tea in a serving vessel is also disclosed. The heating method uses induction heating together with a timer or temperature control and is configured for desktop, table, or car uses.

    Abstract: Disclosed are devices and systems for inductive heating of a liquid or food, which comprise versatile inductive heating cartridges. To be able to use a normally inductively non-heatable cup or vessel made of a generally dielectric material with an induction heating unit, a removable cartridge made of an inductively heatable material is inserted into the vessel. In one embodiment, the cartridge is retained in the vessel by an attachment functionality which prevents the cartridge from sliding or flipping when the cup or vessel is tipped to serve or pour. The attachment functionality is disengageable, and the cartridge may be transferred from cup to cup or vessel to vessel by the user. In another embodiment, the cartridges are configured to more efficiently work with the “pot detection” circuits of modern inductive hot plates or ranges. In another embodiment, the cartridge includes an RFID tag, antenna, and sensor package.

    Abstract: A domain manager device for managing a network. The manager issues to a new device joining the network a number of symmetric authentication keys, and preferably a number of authentication tickets. Each respective authentication key allows the new device to communicate securely with one respective other device comprised in the network. Each respective authentication ticket allows a device with a first identifier to authenticate itself to a device with a second identifier. The new device receives those authentication tickets whose first identifier matches its identifier. The new device presents the ticket with second identifier ‘B’ to device ‘B’ to authenticate itself to ‘B’. Preferably the domain manager generates a number of master device keys and issues one to the new device. Then the authentication tickets can be encrypted with the master device key issued to device with the second identifier.
