  • Patent number: 6484629
Abstract: A new apparatus and methods for automatically unloading or removing an article from a printing machine, and preferably transferring the same to a suitable drying surface is disclosed. The disclosed apparatus includes a support frame, an extendable gripping means attached to the support frame for engaging the article, and a conventional controller for controlling operation of the extendable gripping means. Additionally, at least one platen attached to the printing machine in a manner allowing the extendable gripping means to vertically extend from the support frame to an area of the platen(s) is also disclosed. To permit gripping of the articles, the platen are notched at the area corresponding to the extendable gripping means.

  • Patent number: 6439370
Abstract: A new apparatus and methods for automatically loading an article onto a printing surface of a printing machine, and preferably provide a completely reproducible placement of the textile on the printing machine. In accordance with the present invention, the apparatus includes a first support structure having a surface including a first area and a second area, and adapted to support at least one textile thereon. A second support structure is also provided proximate the second area of the first support structure, having a textile lifting mechanism and a textile transfer mechanism. The first support structure in one embodiment is a conveyor table having a primary textile indexing mechanism, such as a laser created line, a vertical stop, or a compact table with angled side edges. The indexing mechanism may be contoured to approximate a periphery of a portion of the textile. Supplemental or secondary indexing mechanisms may also be used, including lasers or the like.

  • Patent number: 6422548
Abstract: A vacuum bed (110,210,310,410,510) for holding an article on and to the top sheet (25) of the bed is disclosed. The top sheet (25) includes a plurality of holes (34) therein. The bed further has a bottom sheet (21) spaced apart from and below the top sheet (25). A vacuum chamber (30) is formed between the bottom and top sheets (21,25). A vacuum source (8) in communications with the vacuum chamber (30) draws air through the holes (34) in the top sheet (25) forming a vacuum zone (120,220,320,420,520). Means are disclosed within the vacuum chamber (30) to control and adjust the size of the vacuum zone created on the top sheet (25) to hold articles of different widths and heights.

  • Patent number: 6276274
Abstract: A new platen for use with a printing machine, and preferably for allowing automatic unloading of a printed article from a support surface of the platen is disclosed. The disclosed platen includes a structure for attachment to the printing machine, a support surface, and a gripping area disposed about the support surface to allow an automatic unloader to grip and remove an article from the support surface. The support surface is preferably rectangular having gripping areas proximate to each corner of the surface. The gripping areas are preferably notches within the support surface itself, but may also be in the form of a ledge with notches disposed along a portion of an edge and attached to the support surface.
