    Abstract: An apparatus and method for improving the efficiency of a power supply modulator for modulating a supply voltage of a power amplifier are provided. The apparatus for generating a supply voltage includes a Switching Mode Power Supplier (SMPS) module for generating a current of a power supply signal, and a linear regulator for generating a source current for supplementing an insufficient amount of the current generated by the SMPS module and a sink current for eliminating an excessive amount of the current generated by the SMPS module. The SMPS module generates the current of the power supply signal by selecting at least one of a plurality of power supplies that have different voltages according to a voltage level of an input signal of the SMPS module.

The power source consumer processes a Radio Frequency (RF) signal using the power source that is the regulated voltage. The at least one capacitor is connected to an output port of the at least one voltage regulator and a power source input port of the power source consumer. The controller turns off the at least one voltage regulator during a deactivation period of the communication apparatus and turns on the at least one voltage regulator during an activation period of the communication apparatus.

The power amplifier amplifies a phase component of the input signal using the power generated by the supply modulator as a power source of a collector/drain. The DC-DC converter raises battery power of the mobile communication terminal. The voltage regulator determines an output voltage of the supply modulator using the power raised by the DC-DC converter. The switching regulator determines an output current of the supply regulator using the battery power of the mobile communication terminal.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for analog-to-digital conversion, which uses switched capacitors for quantizing an input current. The apparatus for analog-to-digital conversion includes a plurality of charge units configured for being input with a current signal in an analog form, being sequentially charged with the input current signal, and providing a high-level or low-level signal to each next sequentially connected charge unit according to whether or not the charged charge unit is charged above a predetermined threshold value. The apparatus also includes a latch register for receiving the high-level or low-level signals output from the plurality of charge units, converting the received high-level or low-level signals into a linear code, and outputting the converted linear code. The high-level signal is used for starting to charge the next connected charge unit.
